The invention relates to a hybrid inflator () includes at least one combustion chamber () in which propellant charge is arranged and which has a discharge end (), the propellant charge being formed of at least one propellant element (), at least one igniting unit () by which the propellant charge can be ignited. The hybrid inflator () also includes at least one bursting element (&#x2033;) which in the inactivated state of the hybrid inflator () delimits the combustion chamber () against a gas supply chamber () at the discharge end (). The bursting element (&#x2033;) and a restraint element (&#x2033;) maintain the propellant charge in its position and/or the bursting element (&#x2033;) and the propellant charge delimit a shock gas volume (SGV), wherein in the activated state of the hybrid inflator () the shock gas volume (SGV) acts on the bursting element (&#x2033;) like a gas pressure spring.

The invention relates to a bursting diaphragm () for an inflator () comprising at least one predetermined breaking contour () destroyable upon activation of the inflator (), wherein a shock wave can be generated. In accordance with the invention, the predetermined breaking contour () includes a through hole () on at least one end point (), especially on all end points ().

The invention relates to an unlocking device (), especially for a vehicle protection device, comprising a locking bar () which in a locked position establishes a connection positive at least in portions between a first component () to be unlocked and a second component () and permits relative motion of the two components () in an open position. The unlocking device () further comprises a pyrotechnical actuator () including a pyrotechnical element () having a propelling charge and a piston-cylinder unit () having a piston () and a cylinder (), wherein motion of the piston () or the cylinder () can be generated due to activation of the propelling charge upon ignition thereof and wherein the piston-cylinder unit () is connected to the locking bar () without redirection so that upon motion of the piston () or the cylinder () the locking bar is movable from its locked position into its open position.

Unlocking device

A gas generator comprises an elongated, preferably tubular outer housing (), at least one combustion chamber () provided therein and filled with a solid propellant ('), and at least one igniter unit () generating ignition gas for igniting the solid propellant (&#x2032;). The igniter unit () is arranged laterally and externally on the outer housing () in such a way and, in relation to the outer housing (), a preferably radial ignition transfer opening () is provided in the outer housing so that ignition gas generated in the igniter unit () flows into the interior of the outer housing () via the ignition transferopenings ().

Gas generator

A gas generator comprises a tubular housing of a pressure-resistant material and a propellant strand incorporated in the housing. The propellant strand is provided with an envelope surrounding the propellant strand. The envelope is dimensionally stable and substantially rests against the entire outer surface of the propellant strand. The envelope is formed such that in the case of an increase in pressure it expands and rests against the inner surface of the housing.

Tubular gas generator

A gas generator comprises a tubular housing of a pressure-resistant material and a propellant strand which is incorporated in the housing and provided with an envelope. At least one channel is provided between the envelope and the propellant strand so as to extend in an axial direction. The propellant strand has a substantially circular cross-section and the envelope has a polygonal cross-section.

The present invention relates to an inflator for a safety device, in particular for a vehicle occupant restraint system, comprising a housing (,), a combustion chamber formed in the housing and including a solid propellant (,) for generating hot gas, and a coolant (,) introduced into a predetermined flow path of the hot gas. The inflator in accordance with the invention is characterized in that the flow path of the hot gas passes through a nozzle (,) comprising a pitot zone (,) in which the hot gas emerging from the combustion chamber (,) has a high static pressure, and comprising a nozzle neck (,) in which the hot gas builds up a high dynamic pressure, and in that the coolant (,) is arranged in a sleeve-shaped reservoir (,) extending from the pitot zone (,) at least in part into the nozzle neck (,). The inflator in accordance with the invention permits an effective reduction in the exhaust gas temperature of the generated hot gas.

In a gas bag module for a vehicle occupant restraint system, a gas generator is held on a trough-shaped carrier part inbetween a diffusor cap, surrounding it, and the base of the carrier part by means of a clamping ring, by which the rim of the inflation opening of a gas bag is fastened to the carrier part.

The gas generator is wherein the housing is constructed so as to be conductive in the region of the igniter, and the solid propellant and, optionally, the combustion chamber, is arranged in a conductive container, the conductive region of the housing and the conductive container being in conducting connection with each other.
