A spheriodal cast alloy for producing cast iron products with great mechanical strength, high-wear resistance and a high degree of ductility. The alloy comprises the following as non-iron components: between 2.5 and 2.8 wt. % C, between 2.4 and 3.4 wt. % Si, between 0.02 and 0.08 wt. % P, between 0.02 and 0.06 wt. % Mg, between 0.01 and 0.05 wt. % Cr, between 0.002 and 0.02 wt. % Al, between 0.0005 and 0.015 wt. % S, between 0.0002 and 0.002 wt. % B and conventional impurities. The alloy contains between 3.0 and 3.7 wt. % C, between 2.6 and 3.4 wt. % Si, between 0.02 and 0.05 wt. % P, between 0.025 and 0.045 wt. % Mg, between 0.01 and 0.03 wt. % Cr, between 0.003 and 0.017 wt. % Al, between 0.0005 and 0.012 wt. % S and between 0.0004 and 0.002 wt. % B. The alloy is used for example to produce chassis parts or brake discs in the automobile industry.

Spheroidal cast iron alloy parts and method for producing thereof

A method for the production of cores and molds for casting molds, based on a base molding material and an organic or inorganic binding agent and an additive. According to the method, pre-forming substances are used in order to dispense with the use of sizing substances and to prevent the formation of ribs.

Core material

A process and device for introducing additives, in particular energy carriers, into a cupola or shaft furnace. The additive is carried with combustion air stream and introduced therewith in the furnace shaft, a depression being created at the point where the additive is fed into the combustion air stream, so that the additive is fed into the combustion air stream, so that the additive is aspirated by the combustion air into the combustion area of the furnace shaft.

Process and device to feed additives into a shaft or cupola furnace

A ceramic filter for filtering molten iron is disclosed. The ceramic filter is made from a high-melting ceramic material having an open-celled foam structure, a variable bulk density in different portions of the filter, and at least one afflux surface. In order to filter molten iron efficiently, the ratio of filter surface to filter volume should be in the range of about 0.0003 to 9 m.sup.2 /cm.sup.3, the specific filter resistance should be in the range of about 0.1 to 0.9 bar-cm at a flow rate of 5 m.sup.3 /hour, and the pressure loss .DELTA.p across the filter should depend on the specific resistance .rho., the filter length, and the surface area of the afflux plane F in accordance with the relationship: ##EQU1## A method for filtering molten iron using this ceramic filter is also disclosed. In this method, the ceramic filter is located near the point in the casting system where the molten iron has its greatest kinetic energy. The molten iron is first caused to flow tangentially by the afflux plane of the ceramic filter and then is deflected to create turbulence directly before the afflux plane of the filter.

Ceramic filter and method for using same

A casting furnace is fed an inert gas under pressure through a feed line with the pressure being regulated by a melt level control device. When the pressure is reduced, the inert gas is exhausted from the casting furnace by an exhaust line, the feed line having a check valve to prevent gas which is contaminated by magnesium from entering the feed line. An oxidizing gas, preferably pressurized air, is periodically fed into the exhaust line by an oxidizing gas line for cleaning the drain line and the pressure-controlling aperture therein by oxidizing the magnesium.
