A method prints and dries a substrate where ink containing water and pigment is printed onto the substrate in an inkjet printing process. The substrate has an initial moisture content and absorbs at least water of the ink, causing the moisture content of the substrate to rise. Radiation selectively acting on the water molecules is applied in a first drying step and then radiation selectively acting on the pigment is applied in a second drying step in such a way that after completion of the two drying steps, the water of the applied ink has essentially completely evaporated and the substrate has essentially reattained its initial moisture content. In this manner optimum drying of substrates to which ink has been applied occurs.

Method for printing and drying

A digital printing machine includes a first cylinder for transporting sheets, a second cylinder for transferring the sheets directly to the first cylinder, a third cylinder for transferring the sheets directly to the second cylinder, and at least one inkjet print head directed towards the first cylinder for printing on the sheets disposed thereon. At least one first sensor measures the temperature of the first cylinder, a second sensor measures the temperature of the sheets while being transported by the second cylinder or by the third cylinder, and at least one temperature control device controls the temperature of the sheets prior to their transfer to the first cylinder. A control element adapts the temperature of the sheets to the temperature of the first cylinder. The first sensor, the second sensor and the temperature control device are connected to the control element.

A method for setting up and carrying out a print job on an inkjet printing machine having print heads and a thermal dryer includes printing onto a substrate using water-based black and chromatic inks. First test prints of a first test chart with different area coverage test patches are generated on the substrate using black ink, thermally drying the first test prints at different temperatures and evaluating dried first test prints to determine a dryer operating temperature during the print job. A second test print of a second test chart with different ink amount test patches is generated on the substrate using chromatic inks, thermally drying the second test print at the temperature, and evaluating the dried second test print to determine a total ink amount for operating the print heads during the print job. The machine receives temperature and total ink amount and prints the print job.

Method for setting up and operating an inkjet printing machine for a print job

A method for the indirect application of printing liquid onto a printing material provides an intermediate carrier, preferably a circulating belt, a liquid conditioning medium including a first substance applied onto the intermediate carrier and a printing liquid, in particular an inkjet ink, including a second substance applied onto the conditioning medium on the intermediate carrier. The printing liquid is situated as droplets or a layer substantially on the conditioning medium and the droplets or the layer form a contact region on their underside with the conditioning medium. The printing liquid is heated, preferably by way of a dryer and the printing liquid is transferred from the intermediate carrier onto the printing material.

Method for the indirect application of printing liquid onto a printing material

A method for controlling the temperature of a sheet in a printing machine includes measuring initial temperatures in zones on the sheet. Segments of an emitter are actuated in different ways as a function of the measured initial temperatures for irradiating cooler zones to a greater extent and warmer zones to a lesser extent or not at all. A common final temperature or at least a homogenization of the temperature is therefore achieved in the zones.
