A data transmission system for use in hearing devices includes a master unit with a first local bit clock and a slave unit with a second local bit clock. The master unit and the slave unit are connected to each other via a bus line, and are configured to communicate over the bus line according to a communication protocol based on a frame-wise serial transmission of bits. Each frame includes a clock reference, a master signalling interval, a slave signalling interval and a data payload. The slave unit further includes a clock recovery device for synchronizing the second local bit clock with the first local bit clock based on the clock reference transmitted once per frame by the master unit. A corresponding method for data transmission is also provided. Moreover, hearing devices including such a data transmission system as well as uses of such a method for data transmission are proposed.

System and method for master-slave data transmission based on a flexible serial bus for use in hearing devices

The binaural hearing system comprises a first hearing device and a second hearing device, each comprising an output transducer for converting audio signals into signals to be perceived by a user of the hearing system. A communication link interconnects the first and second hearing devices. A sound generator comprised in the first hearing device generates first audio signals. The first hearing device is adapted to transmit the first audio signals to the second hearing device via the communication link. Through the transmission of the generated first audio signals, it is possible to achieve a predictable latency for the perception of the first audio signals by the user's two ears.

Synchronization of sound generated in binaural hearing system

The method of operating a hearing system comprising at least two devices comprises the step of establishing a common network time among said at least two devices. Said at least two devices can be provided with information on the number of network time units that passed since a time zero point of said common network time. Information on the common network time can be communicated from one device to another device. A wireless link can be used for establishing said common network time. The common network time not only allows for a precise synchronization of events within the hearing system, but also for ordering and sequencing events. A priorization of events, like tasks and actions, is enabled, based on the common network time. Doubly-received or obsolete commands can be recognized and deleted, and tasks can be scheduled.
