A method and a device for selecting a function which is implemented at a terminal of the device. The device includes a processor and a first function path over which a first function is implemented, and includes at least one other function path over which another function is implemented. The function paths run over at least two different terminals of the processor, and the at least two function paths are connected and are routed directly to the single terminal of the device. The selection of the function to be implemented is made by a predefinable code, and the at least second function is suppressed.

To detect the rotation direction in a reliable, timely, and simple manner, the pressure prevailing in the inlet channel is measured when a rotary motion is detected, compared with a predefinable threshold value, and the rotation direction is determined based on the comparison result, the throttling device being closed at least for the pressure measurement time.

The invention relates to a mixture control system which provides the possibility of interrupting fuel during overrun operation. The mixture control system includes apparatus for controllably reducing fuel metering at the start of overrun operation and/or controllably resuming the metering of fuel after the end of overrun operation with the controllable reduction and/or resumption taking place via a corresponding control via the integrator component of the mixture control in dependence upon the composition of the exhaust gas. A very advantageous system with respect to complexity and computation time is provided by the cooperative relationship between lambda control and mixture control.

The invention is directed to a method for controlling the no-load speed of an internal combustion engine wherein the position of the throttle flap in the intake tube of the engine is varied as a function of the speed of the engine and of a position signal defining the position of the throttle flap. The variation of the throttle flap position takes place, however, only whenever the throttle flap has assumed a specific, predeterminable position and whenever the engine speed has remained virtually constant over a likewise predeterminable period of time. An embodiment in the form of a flow chart is described by means of which the method according to the invention can be realized.

The invention relates to a method and apparatus for controlling operating characteristic quantities of an internal combustion engine. For issuing an uncorrected anticipatory control value, a characteristic field is addressed by directing pregiven operating characteristic quantities as addresses and, with a simultaneously superposed control, an averaged value of the control factor is applied to the anticipatory control region for effecting an adaptive learning procedure. From the averaged control factor, a global factor is defined which works multiplicatively on the entire basic characteristic field. This considers especially multiplicative disturbance influences. Also, by means of a dividing of the self-adaptive characteristic field into a non-changeable basic characteristic field and into at least one further changeable factor characteristic field corresponding thereto, each basic value is multiplied within a pregiven influence region by means of the associated factor of the factor characteristic field whereby mostly additive disturbing influences are considered. Global factor and the particular factor from the factor characteristic field can conjointly work upon the control value issued by the basic characteristic field.

An arrangement for detecting data in motor vehicles is disclosed especially in combination with the open or closed loop control of internal combustion engines. The arrangement includes at least one potentiometer as a data detector which permits, in at least one boundary region of the potentiometer band, the boundary values to be made to follow the measured value. Thus, a self-adjusting measuring arrangement is obtained which largely eliminates the need for manual fine adjustment. A flowchart discloses a computer-controlled realization of the invention.

Arrangement for detecting measuring data in motor vehicles

A method is disclosed for detecting an extreme value position of a movable part by means of a position detecting sensor. The method is especially suitable for detecting the idle position of the throttle flap of an internal combustion engine with the aid of a potentiometer. In this method, a stored value (extreme value) corresponding to the extreme position is corrected upon the detection of deviating measured values, provided that the deviating measured values lie within a correction range around the extreme value. The range of movement of the movable part has to lie within the range coverable by the position sensor. After a predetermined number of identical measured values are sensed in the correction range during an operating cycle, such a measured value is stored in memory as the new extreme value. For dynamic adaptation, this next extreme value is modified cyclically, preferably prior to each operating cycle, by a predetermined value away from the outermost position. While detecting the extreme position with a high accuracy, the method of the invention has a very small hysteresis, with the full function capability being restored after a short period, even under irregular operating conditions.
