A holder for material to be sewn in the form of a buttonhole frame has a frame plate ( ) and a movable clamping element ( ) with passages ( ). The holder ( ) for material to be sewn can be fixed in place on a displacement mechanism of a sewing machine, and the material to be sewn can be clamped between the frame plate ( ) and the clamping element ( ) with the aid of a pressure element ( ). To make possible space-saving and assured clamping, a wedge surface ( ) is provided which, in the course of the movement of the pressing element ( ) into the position in which the material to be sewn is clamped, builds up a pressing force in the clamping element ( ) against the frame plate.

Buttonhole frame

The device is designed for sewing buttons ( ) using common household sewing machines. To simplify button sewing with household sewing machines, the invention proposes a button-sewing foot ( ) which can be snapped into the pressure-foot holder ( ) of the sewing machine. By means of retaining elements ( ) the button ( ) can be pressed against the button-sewing foot ( ) in such fashion that, independent of the position of the latter, the needle of the sewing machine can be aligned with a given button perforation ( ).

A thread cutter for use in a sewing machine with a rotating hook ( ) has a surface cam ( ) which, together with a cam follower ( ), controls the movement path of a pivotable thread catcher lever ( ), which grasps the thread with a thread catcher ( ) and severs it at a cutter ( ). With known solutions the surface cam is seated on the main shaft of the machine, which results in space-consuming structures with a large amount of parts. It is therefore proposed to connect the surface cam ( ) in a torsion-proof manner with the hook ( ) and to provide arresting means ( ) which, only during a revolution of the hook ( ) with the needle raised, maintain the thread catcher lever ( ) radially outside the engagement range of the surface cam ( ) and only with definite triggering release the thread catcher lever ( ) with a cam follower ( ) for contact with the surface cam ( ). The thread cutter therefore has only very few parts and can be housed without problems in the free arm of a sewing machine in a space-saving manner. Preassembly and pre-setting of the thread cutter, which constitutes one unit with the hook, is also possible.

To embroider combination patterns composed of partial patterns on sewing or embroidering machines with a driven embroidery frame, a common sewing stitch each, which is used as a hooking point, is located outside the contour of the pattern, and whose connection threads to the pattern proper are removed after finishing the second partial pattern, is formed at the end of the first partial pattern and at the beginning of the second partial pattern for the exact positioning of the partial patterns.

Process for embroidering oversized patterns

A sewing machine is provided with a carrying handle movably received at the housing and connected with at least one thread guiding element. The thread guiding element is arranged so that the work to be performed on the sewing machine is favored by its position and access to the carrying handle is not hindered even in the threaded state. The thread guiding element is moved with the carrying handle by a drive mechanism associated with the carrying handle when the handle is moved from an inactive position in the housing to its carrying position the thread guiding element executes a relative movement thereto from its sewing position to its threading position.

A sewing machine has a trimmer and a waste container for trimmed waste fed to it through a guide groove. The waste container that needs little space and also enlarges the workpiece support surface for the sewing material is designed and arranged so that the trimmed waste reaches it over short transport paths. For this purpose, a portion of the sewing machine includes the waste container located beside the trimmer and reaching directly to it, whose top is aligned with a base top plate covering the rest of the base of the sewing machine and together with it forms a support surface for the sewing material.

A method and a device for the formation of an overcast seam using a zigzag sewing machine are disclosed. After the formation of a first loop in an overstitch position of the needle bar, the needle bar, while the needle thread is slackened and the fabric is moved by one stitch length, changes to a second overstitch position in which another thread loop is made. Thereupon, the needle thread, leading from the first to the second thread loop, is pulled out to form a loop in the first overstitch position while the fabric is fed by another stitch length, the loop being offered to the needle for the stitching and released after stitching. The oversew mandrel of the device for implementing the method includes a double lever loop stripper. One arm of the double lever supplements the oversew mandrel and serves as the thread loop stripper. The other arm has a slide surface which projects into the path of motion of the needle fastening screw in the first overstitch position of the needle bar. The arm of the double lever supports a holding member for the thread loop, interacting with a thread loop retaining projection of the oversew mandrel. The device is disposed in its own housing connected to the fabric presser of the sewing machine.

Method and device for forming an overcast seam by means of a zigzag

A method for the formation of an overcast seam by means of a zig-zag sewing machine. After the formation of the first looping of needle and looper thread in a first overstitch position of a needle bar the needle thread is loosened and the needle bar moves into a second overstitch position, in which a further thread looping takes place. After the formation of at least one straight stitch in the second overstitch position, the joining thread between the first two thread looping is drawn out, forming a loop in the first overstitch position, the needle pierces into the loop, after which it is released. The seam thus formed is a firm joining seam by which the sewing material is not gathered between the thread loopings. The method is carried out on a device which comprises an oversewing tongue to which is assigned, in order to obtain two successive motional phases, a starting handle arranged in the swinging path of the needle bar, and a starting handle arranged in the axial path of motion, for the first overstitch position and into whose path of motion protrudes a loop stripper. The needle bar thus controls the drawing out and casting off of the joining thread between the first two thread loopings.
