A unit for estimating a rotational speed of a turbocharger is provided. The unit includes a microprocessor comprising input ports configured for receiving measurement signals from an exhaust gas flow control system of an internal combustion engine and an output port for outputting a signal indicative of the rotational speed of the turbocharger. The input ports are adapted to receive a first set of measurement signals and a second set of measurement signals. A microprocessor is configured to calculate an estimated rotational speed of the turbocharger using a turbocharger model, based on the first set of measurement signals and the second set of measurement signals. Rhe second set of measurement signals include signals indicative of a pressure difference across a turbine of the turbocharger.

A thermal sub-system for a fuel cell system that employs an algorithm using feed-forward control. The algorithm calculates a Reynolds number based on the velocity of the cooling fluid, a diameter of a coolant loop pipe and a kinematic viscosity (temperature) of a cooling fluid. The algorithm also uses a pressure loss number based on the Reynolds number and a position of a by-pass valve. The algorithm also defines a pressure loss value based on the pressure loss number, the density of the cooling fluid and the velocity of the cooling fluid. The algorithm then calculates a delivery head value based on the pressure loss value, the fluid density and a gravitational acceleration. The algorithm then uses the delivery head value and a predetermined set-point value of the volume flow to determine a desired pump speed based on the current operating parameters of the system.

A method for steering a motor vehicle in a collision avoidance maneuver ahead of an object in the front or lateral surroundings of the motor vehicle. It is arranged that a linear control method is employed, in which case one controller output signal (&#x3b4;; . . . ; &#x3b4;) each is determined in at least two linear controller modules depending on a deviation (e) between an actual position of the motor vehicle and a nominal position that is predetermined due to the avoiding path. In order to be able to undertake a reliable prediction of a movement trajectory of an object moving in road traffic even for relatively long prediction periods, a method is proposed in which there is firstly determined () with the aid of an evaluation of a determined movement variable of the object a driving maneuver that is executed by the object. A model () of the movement of the object is then selected as a function of the determined driving maneuver, and the movement trajectory of the object is calculated with the aid of the selected model. There is also proposed an apparatus for predicting the movement trajectory of an object that is suitable for carrying out the method. The object can be both a motor vehicle and an object in the surroundings of the motor vehicle.

Disclosed is a method of executing a collision avoidance maneuver ahead of an object in the surroundings, with which the vehicle is on a collision course. To allow determining the avoiding path in a simplest possible fashion and, in particular, a simplest possible parameterization of the path, the avoiding path is given by a sigmoid (&#x192;(x); &#x192;(x); &#x192;(x)), the shape of which is defined by at least one parameter (a; B; c) that is determined depending on the speed of the motor vehicle or a desired maneuver width of the collision avoidance maneuver. A method of compensating inaccuracies in a wheel speed sensor wherein signal-forming elements are arranged on a sensor wheel and wherein a determined angle is allocated to a given number of signal-forming elements to determine a wheel speed, and wherein the wheel speed is determined by evaluating the time during which the wheel rotates around the angle, wherein a correction factor which is included in the determination of the wheel rotational speed is memorized with respect to each element to compensate for variations of the signal-forming elements and/or the positioning of the elements, and the correction factors are updated during the driving operation, wherein updating is performed so that the non-corrected wheel speed measured by the sensor is compared with a reference value of the wheel speed established by means of a calculating model, and the correction factor is updated in dependence of this comparison.

The invention relates to a process and control circuits for generating defined actuating forces for a brake that is actuated electrically by means of an actuator or electric motor, wherein a first relationship exists between the actuator position and the torque generated by the actuator when the brake is applied and a second relationship exists between the actuator position and the torque generated by the actuator when the brake is released, defining such relationships make it possible to determine the actuating forces occurring during operation without any additional sensors. For this purpose, the present invention proposes that the actuator torques resulting from the first and second relationships be evaluated for determining the efficiency.
