Self-ligating bracket for orthodontics has a base, an occlusal wall extending from the base and occlusal ligature wing, a gingival wall extending from the base and gingival ligature wing, a slot, which separates the occlusal wall and the gingival wall from one another and extends continuously in the direction from mesial to distal, and a slide, which is held in a guide provided in the occlusal wall and/or in the gingival wall. The guide can be shifted in the gingival-occlusal direction, between a closed position, in which the slide bridges the slot, and an open position, in which the slot is open in labial direction. A structure holds the slide in its closed position as well as in its open position.

An orthodontic expansion screw having two bodies whose distance from each other can be changed by means of a spindle that engages both bodies. The spindle includes an actuation part for effecting a torque for readjusting the spindle, and a straight-line guide for engaging both bodies and guiding the bodies along two guide axes that are parallel to each other while preventing a relative rotation of the bodies when their distance from each other is being changed. A friction brake is provided that presses onto the actuation part of the spindle and thus generates a frictional force that renders a rotation of the spindle in both directions of rotation more difficult in order to prevent inadvertent readjustment of the spindle.

A self-ligating bracket for use in orthodontics includes a bracket also closeable by a slide which is undetachably held in both a closed position and in an open position. The slide is easy to open and to close, which gives the bracket an acceptably attractive appearance and which provides little risk of food residues getting trapped that are difficult to remove.

The invention describes is a self-ligating bracket for use in orthodontics having a base (); a support () arranged on the base (); an occlusal wall () with at least one occlusal ligature wing () extending from the support (); a gingival wall () with at least one gingival ligature wing () extending from the support (); a slot () separating the occlusal wall () and the gingival wall () one from the other and extending continuously in the mesial-to-distal direction; a second slot () which extends continuously through the support () in the gingival-to-occlusal direction, and which is limited by a lingual surface () and by a labial surface (a); and a resilient clip () having a labial leg () and a lingual leg () that are connected one to the other by an occlusal section (); the lingual leg () being received in the second slot () and being arranged for displacement in the slot in the gingival-to-occlusal direction between a closed position in which the labial leg () extends into a recess () in the gingival wall () and an open position of the clip () in which the tip of the labial leg () rests on the occlusal wall (). A tongue (), directed toward the occlusal wall (), is cut out from the lingual leg () of the clip () and is bent off in the labial direction so that an acute angle is enclosed between the tongue and the lingual leg () of the clip ().
