An x-ray scanner for inspecting articles moving therethrough, such as on a conveyor, has a frame on which an x-ray source, a collimator for the x-ray beam, and a radiation detector are mounted. The frame resists flexural and torsional stresses so as to maintain the relative positions of the x-ray source, the collimator, and the radiation receiver in the presence of such stresses. The scanner is mounted in a rack in which the frame is seated by a resilient support. The conveyor which is used to move articles through the x-ray beam between the x-ray source and the radiation receiver is supported by the rack, so that mechanical stresses to the conveyor, such as the placement of heavy articles thereon, are not conveyed to the frame, and therefore do not disturb the alignment of the components mounted on the frame, due to the intervention of the resilient support.

X-ray scanner for inspecting articles moving therethrough

A baggage inspection system has a conveyor path disposed between an X-ray source, which genertes an X-ray beam, and a radiation detector for detecting radiation passing through articles on the conveyor path. The conveyor path is formed by two surfaces disposed at a right angle relative to each other, with the right angle being inclined relative to the horizontal so that articles on the conveyor path are forced by gravity to lie against one of the surfaces. At least one of the surfaces is a moveable surface, and the other surface may also be a moveable surface, or a roller surface or a plate against which the articles slide. The radiation detector may be an angled detector row so as to encompass substantially all of the radiation beam within its field of view.

Baggage inspection system

A baggage inspection system has a conveying path for moving articles to be inspected through an x-ray beam. The conveyor path is disposed between an x-ray source for generating the beam and a radiation detector. The radiation detector consists of a number of individual detectors, with the number of individual detectors per unit length being greater in a first region of the detector than in a second region thereof. The first region is disposed at the level of the conveying path for optimally displaying smaller articles transported by the conveyor path, while the second region is suited for display of larger articles.

An apparatus for transradiating an object moving on a conveyor path has a radiation generator for generating at least one fan-shaped radiation beam directed at the object and disposed substantially perpendicularly to the conveyor path, a number of line-shaped radiation detectors disposed for receiving radiation after passing through respective portions of the object with radiation passing through one portion of the object being received by one of the detectors, and all of the detectors in combination receiving all of the radiation passing through the object, and an evaluation unit connected to the detectors for evaluating signals therefrom to form an image of the object.

Apparatus for transradiating objects on a conveyor path

An electronic flash attachment accommodates plural circuits, one of which is used for differing types of cameras and others of which are each used for a particular respective type of camera. The flash attachment has a contact socket with contact elements electrically connected to the plural circuits. A connector module is removably provided on the flash attachment and can be replaced by a different connector module for a different type of camera. The connector module has a first face provided with first contact elements which engage those of the contact-socket contact elements associated with those of the plural circuits which are to be used with the type of camera for which the connector module is intended. The connector module has a second face configured to be received in a camera's flash-attachment mounting shoe and provided with second electrical contacts electrically connected to the first and so disposed as to conductively engage the contact elements with which such mounting shoe is provided.

Electronic flash attachment for cameras, provided with plural circuits

A reflector of a photo flash device bounds a space for a light source. The space has an open side across which a light-transmissive shield extends that permits light from the source to issue through the opening at a first angle of emergence. A wide-angle light-transmissive shield is hinged to a frame of the first-mentioned shield and can be swung into and out of an operating position in which it is located in front of the first-mentioned shield and causes the issuing light to emerge at a larger angle of emergence. This permits a user to increase or decrease the area which he wishes to have illuminated when the device is operated.

Photo flash device

The flash unit includes a flash element and a first electronic switch connected in the current path of the flash element. The flash element is ignited by rendering the first switch conductive. Flash-terminating circuitry terminates the flash by rendering the first switch non-conductive. The flash-terminating circuit includes a commutation capacitor and a second electronic switch interconnected with each other and with the first switch for applying the commutation capacitor voltage to the first electronic switch as a reverse-bias voltage when the second electronic switch is rendered conductive. The second electronic switch is a two-electrode electronic switch which can be rendered conductive by raising the voltage across its electrodes above the value at which such voltage is normally maintained. A light-integrating device detects the light emitted by the flash element and when such amount has reached a predetermined value renders the second electronic switch conductive by raising the voltage across the electrodes of the second electronic switch.

Circuit for light-integrator-controlled electronic flash unit

A chopper circuit arrangement for charging an electronic flash discharge capacitor and for turning off the chopper is disclosed. The arrangement operates from a D.C. source and includes chopper transistors and a transformer operating together as a converter. Regenerative means, including a feedback winding of the transformer, function to charge the flash discharge capacitor. The arrangement includes transistors disposed across the chopper transistors to block or hold the converter off. These blocking transistors are activated when the voltage across the discharge capacitor has achieved a predetermined value. The arrangement includes means for effectuating blocking of the converter only during the off condition of the chopper. The arrangement also includes means for delaying the charge of the discharge capacitor, after discharge, for a predetermined time.

A circuit arrangement for charging a flash capacitor of a designated rated voltage from a DC source of a higher rated voltage. A thyristor in the line from the DC source is blocked when the voltage for which the flash capacitor is designed is reached.

Charging circuit for a flash capacitor

A circuit for igniting an electronic flashtube including a thyristor connected in series with the flashtube and an ignition capacitor connected through a switching thyristor to an ignition transformer to trigger the flashtube. The state of the series thyristor is controlled by means such as an electronic threshold switch to provide proper switching operation over a range of flashtubes with different specimen variations with respect to the time required to build up plasma.
