Two parallel spun yarns (8, 8a) are wound onto a joint cross-wound bobbin (15) in the machine. If one of the yarns breaks (e.g. 8), the bobbin (15) and the supply of slivers (32, 32a) to the drafting arrangements (11, 11a) are stopped. An end of the unbroken yarn (8a) is taken up by a suction tube (69) and the broken end of the yarn (8) is wound up on the bobbin (15). The ends of the two yarns (8, 8a) are retrieved, reversely routed through the spinning units (12, 12a), the bobbin (15) and the draw-off device (14) are restarted and, the yarns (8, 8a) are deposited in and simultaneously withdrawn from the drafting arrangements (11, 11a) for joining therein with the end of restarted slivers (32, 32a). The sliver stoppers (30, 30a), however, are restarted at different times. In this manner, repair of a breakage in two yarns being jointly wound up on a common bobbin is achieved. During a subsequent twisting of the two yarns (8, 8a) to form a thread, the joined positions of the two yarns are offset along their lengths with respect to one another.

The bale opening machine is provided with a detection unit upstream of the bale opener for detecting the presence of foreign material at the surface of the fiber bale. In addition, an extraction unit is mounted adjacent the bale opener for removing the detected foreign material from a fiber bale. The extraction unit may include pairs of gripping jaws so as to mechanically remove the fiber material or may be constructed as a suction tube or tubes to pneumatically remove the foreign material. The detection and extraction unit may be mounted on a common side or on opposite sides of the bale opener.

The removal roll carrier can be inclined at an angle while the carrier is simultaneously moved vertically and while the removal apparatus moves over the line of fiber bales. This has the advantage that flocks can be removed from the bales not only in the horizontal direction but also in an inclined direction. A microprocessor controls the pivoting of the removal apparatus into a predetermined inclined position while simultaneously moving the removal apparatus vertically during movement of the machine frame along the path of the fiber bales.

Apparatus for removing fiber flocks from a line of fiber bales

A flock extraction apparatus includes a pair of ducts which extend along a track for conveying fiber flock and a diverter chamber at one end of the ducts for directing the flock into one or the other of a pair of transport ducts extending from the diverter chamber. Plates are used to block communication between the diverter chamber and the respective transport ducts as well as to sub-divide the diverter chamber for communication with a respective duct extending along the track.

Flock delivery systems

The flock delivery system employs a microcomputer with a storage cell for each marker and a storage cell for each stretch of path (containing one or more bale groups) between the markers. The control system is conditional selectively to 'permit' or 'inhibit' extraction of flocks from bales in each block individually. Various flock bending combinations can be obtained from time-to-time by programming of the control system.

A feed chute arrangement for textile machines, such as carding machines includes a feed chute having a plurality of walls one of which is gas-permeable to let gaseous medium to escape from the interior of the feed chute into a neighboring gas output chamber that is bounded by a plurality of additional walls different from the gas permeable wall. One of these additional walls is provided with an opening at which there is pivotally mounted a plate-shaped blocking flap selectively movable between its closed position and a plurality of open positions in which it offers various amounts of resistance to the flow of the gaseous medium from the gas output chamber through the opening into a connecting conduit and eventually into a discharge passage. Fiber material entrained in the gaseous medium and travelling therewith in a transporting duct enters the interior of the feed chute through an open upper end and deposits in the form of a fiber body at the lower end of the interior of the feed chute to be fed therefrom by a pair of feeding rollers. The gaseous transportation medium leaves the interior of the feed chute through the gas-permeable wall and then flows through the gas output chamber and through the opening. An operating device may be employed to move the blocking flap at least toward and into its closed position. A weight may be movably mounted on a bar extending transversely of the blocking flap to select the torque acting on the latter. The operating device may be controlled by the density of the fiber material passing between the feeding rollers.

Feed chute arrangement for textile machines, such as carding machines

To control the yarn quality of a yarn produced by a textile machine, particularly a false-twist jet spinning apparatus, there is provided at the end of the spinning operation, however, upstream of the pair of withdrawal rolls for the outfeed of the produced yarn, a yarn tension measuring device. Upon falling outside of a predeterminate yarn tension tolerance or tension range the yarn tension measuring device controls operation of the false-twist jet spinning apparatus such that, as required, there is accomplished an appropriate increase or decrease of the yarn tension of the yarn produced by the false-twist jet spinning apparatus. Alteration of the yarn tension can be achieved, for instance, by varying the blowing intensity or energy of the air utilized for the spinning operation as well as by varying the angle at which there is blown in the air used for the spinning operation or by varying the rotational speed of the delivery rolls which deliver the formed yarn or by selected combinations of these measures.

Method and apparatus for monitoring a predetermined yarn quality at a

To control the yarn quality of a yarn produced by a textile machine, for instance a friction spinning apparatus, there is provided at the end of the friction spinning operation, however, forwardly of the pair of withdrawal rolls for the outfeed of the produced yarn, a yarn tension measuring device. Upon deviating from or falling outside of a predeterminate yarn tension tolerance value or range the yarn tension measuring device controls operation of the friction spinning apparatus such that, as required, there is accomplished an appropriate increase or decrease of the yarn tension of the yarn produced by the friction spinning apparatus. Alteration of the yarn tension can be acheived, for instance, by acting upon the drive for one of the friction spinning elements, to control the rotational speed thereof, or by selectively positioning the suction nozzle of a friction spinning element, or by controlling the size of the nip between coacting friction spinning elements, or selected combinations of such measures.

An arrangement for extracting fiber flocks from textile fiber bales includes a fiber flock extraction member which passes between and projects to a predetermined extent beyond respective grid bars which rest on the bale surface during the extraction operation, for the extraction member to extract the fiber flocks from the surface layer of the bale. The extent to which the extraction member extends beyond the grid bars can be adjusted in dependence on the fiber type. To achieve this, the grid bars are movable with respect to the extraction member by respective screw-threaded spindles. This adjustment is performed under the control of a suitable control system, especially a microprocessor, such that the extent of projection of the extraction member beyond the grid bars is automatically accommodated to the fiber type of each bale or bale group from which the fiber flocks are to be extracted during a particular extraction operation.

Method and arrangement for extracting fiber flocks from textile fiber

In order to extract fiber flocks from individual textile fiber bale groups with a substantially constant extraction power independently of density variation distribution over the bale height, the individual bale groups are subdivided into a plurality of height zones exhibiting different densities of fiber material. Then, an extracting member provided with a rotating extraction head is moved through the upper zone with a relatively large penetration depth, while the penetration depth is gradually reduced during the movement of the extracting member through the next lower zone until the penetration depth desired for the next following lower zone is reached, from which point this penetration depth is maintained until reaching the lowermost zone during the movement through which the penetration depth is again gradually increased until the last layer to be extracted is reached. A control system for performing the above method includes a microprocessor which stores the inputted desired number of passes and penetration depths for the definition of the zones, and controls the movement of the extraction member accordingly.
