A process for purifying water, which comprises passing water contaminated with halogenated compounds through one or more fixed or fluidized bed reactors which are connected in series and packed with an adsorbent material which is inoculated with one or more microorganisms. The process results in almost complete elimination of the halogenated hydrocarbons.

Waste air purification process

The application relates to a process for the biological disposal and purification of waste air which is contaminated with hazardous substances with the aid of biofilters. The breakdown efficiency of the biofilter is increased by adding to the waste air basic compounds which are in the form of a gas or dissolved.

Biological process for purifying waste air

The invention relates to a process for recovering preferably water-insoluble organic substances such as nitrobenzene, dichlorobenzene and/or trichlorobenzene by absorption from spent air vapors which contain these substances. The process comprises passing the spent air vapors through a high-boiling organic liquid, preferably polyethylene glycol, subsequently adding water to the saturated absorbent and separating the recovered organic substance from the absorbent/water mixture after phase separation.

Process for recovering organic substances from spent air vapors

A process for recovering nitrobenzene, dichlorobenzene and/or trichlorobenzene from substantially undried exhaust gases or spent air containing these compounds, by passing said gases through a layer of silica-containing adsorbents and, after adsorption, regenerating the adsorbents by removing the sorbed compounds. The relative humidity of the waste vapors is preferably less than 50% in order to achieve an effective separation by adsorption.
