Substituted triols are prepared by reducing appropriately substituted carboxylic esters. The substituted triols can be used as active substances in medicaments.

The cycloalkano-pyridines are prepared by reacting corresponding cycloalkano-pyridine-aldehydes with suitable organometallic compounds or Wittig or Grignard reagents or reacting compounds of the cycloalkano-pyridine alcohols type with suitable bromine compounds, and optionally varying the functional groups accordingly. The cycloalkanopyridines are suitable as active compounds in medicaments, in particular in medicaments for the treatment of hypertipoproteinaemia and arteriosclerosis.

The 2-aryl-substituted pyridines are prepared by reacting pyridylaldehydes with organometallic compounds and then selectively reducing the products. The 2-aryl-substituted pyridines are suitable as active compounds in medicaments, in particular in medicaments for the treatment of arteriosclerosis.

The heterocyclic-fused pyridines are prepared by reaction of the corresponding heterocyclic-fused pyridine aldehydes with appropriately substituted Grignard or Wittig reagents. The heterocyclic-fused pyridines are suitable as active compounds in medicaments, in particular in medicaments for the treatment of dislipidaemia and arteriosclerosis.

The 6-(hydroxymethyl-ethyl)pyridines are prepared by a process in which the 3-hydroxymethylpyridines which are hydroxyl-protected in the 6-position are oxidized to the 3-aldehyde, this is then converted into the corresponding oxoheptenoic acid derivative using a Wittig-Homer reaction, after this the oxo group is reduced to the hydroxyl group and then the isomers are separated by chromatography. The 6-(hydroxymethyl-ethyl)pyridines are suitable as active compounds in medicaments, in particular in medicaments having antiarteriosclerotic activity.

6-(hydroxymethyl-ethyl)pyridines

4-(Quinolin-2-yl-methoxy)-phenyl-acetic acid derivatives are prepared by reacting quinoline-methoxy-phenyl-acetic acids with the corresponding glycinol derivatives, if appropriate with activation of the carboxylic acid function. The new compounds are suitable as active compounds in medicaments, in particular in antiatherosclerotic medicaments.

Substituted 4-phenyl-pyridones and 4-phenyl-2-alkoxypyridines are prepared by reducing corresponding 4-phenyl-pyridone and 4-phenyl-2-alkoxypyridine derivatives. The substituted 4-phenyl-pyridones and 4-phenyl-2-alkoxypyridines can be employed as active compounds in medicaments, in particular for the treatment of hyperlipoproteinaemia.
