Bayonet stun gun

A tubing clamp controlling flow within compressible tubing passing through the clamp which is adapted for inserting the tubing sidewise into the clamp upon opening of a hinged side wall. An adjustable flow controller overlies the tubing and is adapted to rotate, bear upon and squeeze the tubing for precise flow control. A lever arm to actuate the flow controller is in ratcheting engagement with an arcuate bar to hold the lever arm and cylindrical surface of the flow controller in the desired rotative position. The selected position of the lever arm can then be recorded. The tubing clamp can be constructed as a one-piece structure by use of a single mold and prepared as a kit to facilitate use for medical purposes. The assembly of the clamp is thus simplified and the method for controlling flow is accomplished by a series of simple steps.

Tubing clamb to control flow through compressible tubing

A disposable rodent trap for use with a spring for biasing the trap to a closed position. The trap has a ramp as a trigger, and trigger posts with hinges which when set in collinear alignment, cause the trap to spring close at a movement of the triggering ramp.

Rodent and small animal trap

A device for metering the flow of a liquid medium passing therethrough comprises a plastic stem member having a cylindrical metering drum element projecting into and rotatively engaged in liquid tight relation with the cylindrical wall of a bore chamber in a body member to rotatively mount the stem member therein. A diametrically slotted headed stud projecting endwise from the drum element is contracted and inserted through a bore opening in the end wall of the chamber in the body member to cause the head end of the stud to snap-lock behind the chamber end wall and thus secure the stem and body members together in assembled rotative relation. Diametrically opposite arcuate metering slots of decreasing cross-sectional size in the cylindrical surface of the drum element and leading from opposite ends of a diametrical cross passageway in the drum, meter the flow rate of the liquid medium into and out of the chamber through diametrically opposite port openings in the chamber side wall, depending on the relative rotative position of the stem and body members. Generally radially outward extending actuating arm means on the stem and body members enable relative rotative movement thereof to a selected metering position.

Liquid flow metering device

A device for controlling the flow of a liquid medium passed therethrough comprises a cup-shaped plastic body member having a bottom end wall with a bore opening and a side wall forming with the bottom end wall a chamber through which the liquid medium is passed. A plastic stem member is journaled in the bore opening of the body member to rotatably mount the stem member thereon. The stem member overlies and closes off the open top end of the chamber and has a flow control element located within the chamber for controlling the flow rate of the liquid medium therethrough, as determined by the selected relative rotative position of the member. The stem member is snap-locked in assembled relation with the body member, and the two members are provided with actuating arm means including a radially outward projecting lever arm on the stem member for rotating the members relative to one another. Retaining means comprising a detent on the lever arm in ratcheting engagement with an arcuate ratchet bar on the body member are provided for maintaining the members in a selected relative rotative flow controlling position. In a tubing clamp form of the flow controlling device affording drop-by-drop liquid flow, the body member is provided with an open ended channelway thereacross open at its top for sidewise insertion of a compressible tubing thereinto and retention therein by the stem member on its snap-locked assembly with the body member. A flow control element in the form of a disc cam on the stem member engages with the tubing in the channelway on relative rotative movement of the body and stem members from an inoperative position in which the cam is disengaged from the tubing to an operative position in which the cam is engaged with the tubing to effect either partial or complete occlusion of the tubing, depending on the relative rotative position of the body and stem members.

Liquid flow control device

A hypodermic injector device for medical injection purposes comprises a one-piece molded plastic member of generally compass-like form having a pair of swing arms hinged together at one end by a hinge loop connector web portion for manual swing movement toward and away from one another. A threaded mounting socket or other type mounting arrangement is provided on the outer end of one of the swing arms for securing thereto, in various use applications of the device, a hollow hypodermic needle or a hypodermic syringe. The other swing arm is formed at its outer end with a thin arcuate push rod portion which, when the swing arms are swung together, is moved through a bore passageway in the mounting socket to effect injections of medicaments or intramuscular implantation of electrodes into a patient through the hollow needle, or injection of the filling from a hypodermic syringe mounted on the device.

Hypodermic injector device

A flow regulating valve device providing continuous flushing of intravascular catheters with a flushing solution at either a restricted normal slow flow rate or intermittently at a catheter flush-out fast flow rate. The valve device has a cylindrical drum element rotatably mounted within a cylindrical chamber of a body member and provided with a diametrical flow-restricting capillary passage and a circumferentially extending, arcuate groove fast flow bypass passageway which are selectively moved into respective flow controlling positions by rotative adjustment of the drum element within the chamber. Biasing spring means on the device normally bias and maintain the body and stem members in their restricted flow rate relative rotative position while actuating arm means on these members enable manual rotative displacement thereof to their fast flow relative rotative position.

Continuous catheter flushing flow control device

A bubble oxygenator for oxygenating blood in an extracorporeal circuit. The oxygenator is formed from three concentric shells which define an oxygenating chamber, a defoaming chamber and an arterial reservoir. The arterial reservoir includes a view chamber which permits visual inspection of the level of blood held in the arterial reservoir. The outer shell which forms the arterial reservoir is rotatable with respect to the remainder of the apparatus so that the view chamber can be easily positioned for observation.

Bubble oxygenator

The present invention relates to a heat exchanger which is specifically adapted for use in connection with blood oxygenators, particularly bubble oxygenators. The core of the heat exchanger is generally cylindrical and closed at both ends. The cylinder is made of thin walled material with good heat exchange properties such as aluminum. The portion of the heat exchanger core which will be exposed to blood is coated with a biocompatible material such as tetrafluoroethylene. The heat exchanger may be connected to a source of heat exchange medium, such as water, through couplings in the top portion of the heat exchanger core. The heat exchange medium is then circulated through the core providing heating or cooling which is capable of heating or cooling blood within a bubble oxygenator. The heat exchanger core is then nested within a suitable receiver. The inner walls of said receiver may be reticulated in order to facilitate exchange of heat between the heat exchanger core and a fluid, such as blood, flowing between the outer wall of the heat exchanger core and the inner wall of the shell.

Heat exchanger

An attachment device for inserting and removing the spike for obtaining fluids from a medical fluid bag such as an IV bag or a bag for peritoneal dialysis comprises a base holding the spike positioned to be inserted into the neck of the bag, and opposed toggles pivoting on the base which engage the neck of the bag during insertion and push the neck onto the spike. During removal of the spike the toggles operate an engagement which contacts the end of the neck and pushes the spike out of the neck of the bag. The device has a hand operable slide which affects the motions of the toggles and the toggles have dependent legs ending in the engagement. The attachment device is designed to protect the end of the spike and to prevent contamination.

Hollow fiber fluid fractionation cells such as used in artificial kidney machines are manufactured by placing a series of half sections of the longitudinal walls of the cell on the periphery of a winding wheel; winding fluid-filled permeable hollow fibers thereabout until the section is full or slightly over-full; placing another mating half shell over each fiber-filled section on the wheel and assembling the cell core; cutting the courses between each section and draining the fluid therefrom; putting an initial fluid potting compound about the courses of fibers and centrifugally casting the potting compound about the fibers at each end of the cell; cutting the fibers at each end within the area of the potting compound to re-expose the hollow cores thereof and placing end caps on and affixing them to each end of the cell to complete the assembly of the cell.
