The invention relates to a shaft for a femoral neck prosthesis, which comprises an anchoring area () which is arranged inside the femur in order to anchor the prosthesis into bone, a head area which is axially adjacent to the anchoring area () on the proximal side, said head area comprising a device () which is connected to the prosthesis head (), in addition to a distal end which is arranged opposite the head area in the axial direction of the anchoring area (). The invention is characterised in that the maximum cross-sectional dimension of the head area is at the most equal and, in particular, smaller than the maximum diameter of the anchoring area (), in such a manner that the maximum cross-sectional dimension of the shaft () is in the anchoring area ().

Femoral neck prosthesis

Rasps for preparing bones of various patients to receive a prosthetic implant and a method for using the same. Multiple rasps may be provided as a set. Within the set, the rasps generally correspond to the size and shape of a single prosthetic implant, such as a prosthetic femoral hip stem, and have a range of bone removal and bone compression capabilities to account for unique bone characteristics of the various patients. A surgeon may select a desired rasp from the set provided depending on the patient's unique bone characteristics.

Gender specific femoral rasps

In some examples, a method for at least one of preparation or machining of a femoral head formed on a neck of a femur includes selecting an instrument including probing forceps and a guide element including a centering axis. The guide element is coupled to the probing forceps at first and second coupling points disposed along the centering axis such that the centering axis is disposed in a central plane of the probing forceps independent of an opening angle of the probing forceps. The probing forceps are closed with probing jaws symmetrically contacting the neck of the femur at opposite sides with respect to an axis of the neck of the femur. The guide element self-adjusts with closing of the probing forceps so that the centering axis is automatically aligned in the middle with respect to the two oppositely disposed sides of the neck of the femur.

Instrument for preparing and/or machining a femoral head

An implant is set forth having at least one first element and a second element, wherein the first element is provided in a pre-determined relative location to the second element, in particular at least partly in a recess of the second element. The first element has a pre-positioning location having play with respect to the second element and allowing a fully area gas sterilization of both elements and can be displaced from this pre-positioning location into an end positioning location corresponding to a fixed connection of both elements.

Implant and a method of manufacturing an implant packed in a sterile manner

The invention relates to an instrument for preparing and/or machining a femoral head () embodied on a femoral neck (). Said instrument comprises tactile forceps () that are provided with two forked levers () and two tactile jaws (), each of which is assigned to one of the forked levers (). The forked levers are interconnected at a fulcrum (). The inventive instrument features a manipulating end and a working end. The tactile jaws are located at the working end of the instrument. A guiding element () is provided which encompasses a centering pin () and is mounted and/or guided at least at two points () spaced apart from each other in the direction of the centering pin () in such a way that the centering pin () always lies on a central plane () of the tactile forceps () regardless of an opening angle of the tactile forceps (), said central plane () containing the fulcrum (). The bearing and/or guiding points () are directly and/or indirectly hinged to the tactile forceps ().

The specified implant for use as a femur component in a hip joint prosthesis comprises a shaft, being intended for the implantation in a cavity of a proximal femur, a head section, for fastening a femoral head prosthesis and a femoral neck section, being arranged between the shaft and the head section. The femoral neck section comprises a femoral head axis and a contour in a cross-section perpendicular to the femoral neck axis, tapering in a V-shape or wedge-shape to medial and at least an anterior straight section and at least a posterior straight section, wherein the straight sections define the tapering.

Femur component for a hip joint prosthesis

The invention relates to an implant system having at least one shaft of a prosthesis, in particular a hip joint prosthesis, which can be anchored without cement, and a set of instruments for the preparation of the bone in which the shaft is to be anchored, wherein the shaft has an arcuate base body with a trapezoidal or rectangular cross-section and the set of instruments includes a first instrument which is shaped in accordance with the arcuate shape of the shaft and with which a recess serving for the reception of the base body can be established in the bone; and wherein the shaft is provided with ribs in the proximal region and the set of instruments includes a guide body shaped in accordance with the arcuate shape of the shaft for a second instrument with which structures can be manufactured in the bone serving to fix a path for the shaft ribs when the guide body is located in the recess.

Implant system

The acetabulum (1) in accordance with the invention comprises a spherically formed outer shell (3) as well as a spherically formed inner shell (4) which is inserted into the outer shell (3). The inner shell (4) can, for example, consist of an oxide-ceramic material, in particular of aluminum oxide. The outer shell (4) can consist of, for example, titanium. The outer surface (4c) of the inner shell (4) is formed such that it has a first partial surface (4c) with increasing outer cross-section from the pole (2a) towards the equatorial opening (4b) to a site (4a) with a largest outer diameter, that a further partial surface (4e) with an outer cross-section decreasing towards the equatorial opening (4b) connects to the partial surface (4c), which goes into a further partial surface (4f) with increasing outer cross-section towards the equatorial opening. The outer shell (3) was plastically deformed at least in the region of the partial surface (4e), so that an operative connection results between the outer shell (3) and the inner shell (4) at least over the partial surface (4e).

Artificial acetabulum and method for manufacture

An inner shell for insertion into an outer shell to thereby form a hip joint socket. The inner shell includes an outwardly projecting thread spigot located at a pole with the thread spigot defining a rotational axis and being screwable into an inner thread of the outer shell. The inner shell further includes a projection arranged at the outer edge and extends outwardly radially to the rotational axis. The projection includes at least one locking part that acts on the outer shell, when the inner shell is placed within the outer shell, in order to prevent rotation of the inner shell about the rotational axis.

Inner shell for an artificial hip joint socket

The acetabulum (1) comprises a semispherical support shell (2d) whose inner surface (20) has at least three retaining means (2b) which protrude into the interior. Furthermore, the acetabulum (1) comprises a semispherical inner shell (3) which can be inserted into the correspondingly dimensioned semispherical support shell (2d). The outer surface (30) of the inner shell (3) has at least one recess (3b) extending in a helical manner, in such a way that the inner shell (3) can be rotated into the support shell (2d) with a screw motion, thereby resulting in operative connection between the protruding retaining means (2b) of the support shell (2d) and the recess (3b) extending in a helical manner of the inner shell (3), so that the inner shell (3) is retained in the support shell (2d).

Artificial acetabulum

The socket (2) comprises a metallic outer shell (4), an intermediate shell (5) of plastics and a metallic inner shell (6), which may be inserted into the latter using a connection by shape. The outer shell (4) is divided into segments (4a, 4b, 4c, 4d, 4e) by recesses (9) open towards its equatorial marginal region. The outer shell (4) and the inner shell (6) are rigidly supported against each other in the direction of a common main axis (A) by a contact portion (8), and are non-rotatably connected by an attachment element (15) eccentrically offset with respect to the main axis (A). The intermediate shell (5) has an aperture (20), which receives the contact portion (8), and an outer surface (21), which has a supporting portion (21a) for bearing onto a portion of the inner surface (18) of the outer shell (4), and outside this supporting portion (21a) delimits with the remaining portion of the inner surface (18) a spacing (S), which allows corresponding relative movement of the intermediate shell (5), which contains the inner shell (6), and at least one of the segments (4a, 4b, 4c, 4d, 4e) of the outer shell (4) transversely to the main axis (A). The implanted outer shell (4) may, under load, elastically deform with the part of the bone by which it is surrounded, while the spherical shape of the inner shell (6) remains undisturbed.

Composite artificial socket and hip joint prosthesis

The metallic inner shell (1) is guidable into the inner hollow volume of an outer shell (2) and fastenable to the outer shell (2) with the fastening element (8). A two-part hip joint socket (3) is thus produced. To achieve this, support regions of the inner shell (1) are approximately positioned into a groove (11) of the outer shell (2) and, from there, the inner shell (1) is moved into the outer shell (2) via a pivotal movement so that the support regions completely seat into the groove (11) and the fastening element (8) adopts the position shown. The intermediate volume between the inner shell (1) and the outer shell (2) thus narrows in the direction of taper (13) so that the fastening element (8), when tightened in the direction (13), wedges itself with its head (9) between the boundary surface (1i) of the inner shell (1) and the groove (11) of the outer shell (2). Play between the inner thread (7a) and the outer thread (8a) is preferably provided so that, when the fastening element (8) is tightened, the force transmission region (9b) of the head (9) seats against the boundary surface (1i) of the inner shell (1) and the force transmission region (9a) seats against the groove (11) of the outer shell (2). The inner shell (1) thus lies wedged in the outer shell (2) due to the fact that the fastening element (8) transmits a radially oriented force between the inner shell (1) and the outer shell (2).

Inner shell for a hip joint socket

The acetabulum has an outer shell (1) which is composed of several relatively rigid outer shell segments (1a, 1c) that are interconnected by resilient regions. The outer shell (1) has regions of high shape stability which are elastically connected to each other. The outer shell segment (1) in the region of the direction of main loading (F) is made as an attachment zone (1a) and has apertures for bone screws and a guiding and attachment bore (3) for an inner shell (10). The guiding bore (3) is with respect to the whole outer shell (1) situated at the pole (P2). In the region of main loading (F) the outer shell (1), that is the attachment zone (1a), bears, engaged by shape, onto the inner shell (10), whereas the remaining outer shell segments (1c) have a spacing (D) from the inner shell (10), so that by the bell-like suspension of the inner shell (10) at the pole (P2) the inner shell is movable, particularly perpendicularly, to the axis (18), while damping elements (13a) of the inner shell (10) transmit onto the outer shell (1) particularly impact forces in a dampened manner.
