Various embodiments of the teachings herein include an apparatus for measuring a magnetic field of a conductor of an electric current. The apparatus may include three magnetic field sensors arranged on a circumference of a non-circular ellipse defined by parallel projection or orthogonal projection of a circle. Three first positions are arranged equidistantly on a circumference of the circle. The three first positions emerge from the parallel projection or the orthogonal projection onto at least three second positions on the ellipse. The three magnetic field sensors are arranged at the three second positions. The magnetic field is measured without using a flux concentrator.

A current measuring device for generating an output current proportional to a current to be measured includes at least two Hall sensors arranged on a circular path and oriented identically in relation to a center point. The current measuring device includes an adding circuit summing measurement signals of the Hall sensors, a subtracting circuit for eliminating an offset, a voltage-controlled current source, and a current supply with a toroidal coil having a paramagnetic and/or diamagnetic core and a DC/DC converter supplying the Hall sensors. In a method for measuring a current, a current measuring device has an adding circuit for adding the measurement signals of the Hall sensors and generating a voltage proportional to the current to be measured. An offset of the voltage is subtracted by a subtracting circuit, generating an output current with a predefined transformation ratio relative to the measured current.

A method for determining the average distance between a measurement device and a conductor includes determining a profile of a horizontal component using the horizontal position of the device that indicates the orthogonal distance between the device and the longitudinal axis of the conductor parallel to the earth's surface, measured at at least two different horizontal positions, determining a profile of the vertical component, which is associated with the determined profile of the horizontal component, using the horizontal position of the device, wherein the vertical profile is determined by measuring the vertical components associated with the horizontal components, determining the ratio of the profiles as a function using the horizontal position of the device, determining the derivative of the ratio according to the horizontal position, determining the reciprocal of the derivative, and determining the average distance between the devices and the conductor from the reciprocal of the derivative.

In a method for measuring a current, a plurality of flux-gate field sensors is arranged with radial symmetry on a first circumferential path, and a plurality of Hall sensors is arranged with radial symmetry on a second circumferential path such that a one of the flux-gate field sensors is placed adjacent a one of the Hall sensors, with the flux-gate field sensors having a sensitivity which is higher by a factor 5 to 20 than a sensitivity of the Hall sensors. At least one of the plurality of flux-gate field sensors is evaluated so as to determine a current intensity, when two of the flux-gate field sensors generate measurement values within a measurement range, or at least one of the plurality of Hall sensors is evaluated so as to determine a current intensity, when the measurement values of the two flux-gate field sensors are outside of the measurement range.

The present disclosure relates to electrical conductors. The teachings herein may be embodied a current-measuring devices and/or methods for determining an electric current in an electrical conductor. For example, a method for determining a magnitude of an electric current in an electrical conductor may include: measuring output signals from a plurality of magnetic-field sensors arrayed around the electrical conductor; setting a compensation current through a compensation coil surrounding the plurality of magnetic-field sensors based on detected output variables of the magnetic-field sensors; and determining the magnitude of the electric current through the electrical conductor based on the set compensation current through the compensation coil.

In order to detect the current state of a system component, e.g. to display whether an electrical conductor, a cable or the like, is currently live, a field generator that generates a magnetic field in the environment of the system part is provided, which generator is connected to an organic magnetoresistive OMR semiconductor element that is arranged stationary in the environment of the system component to be monitored, and a voltage source for generating an electrical voltage between two electrodes of the OMR semiconductor element is provided. The device and the method can be fitted in a simple manner and cost-effectively to almost any system part, even at a later stage to already existing systems. A corresponding display shows the desired information locally limited and in the simplest manner: if the electric conductor is currently energized, an additional evaluation is not necessary.

Device and method for monitoring the state of a system component

Torque transmitted via a drive shaft of a motor is contactlessly determined using organic magnetoresistive semiconductor element, unlike known torque sensors that can generate greatly fluctuating measurement signals even at a constant torque. The organic magnetoresistive semiconductor element is mounted on a drive shaft or a coupling thereof. For this purpose, a field generator is provided, which is rigidly connected to the drive shaft or the clutch and which in the environment of the drive shaft generates a magnetic field that is dependent upon the torque. In the environment, the OMR semiconductor element is arranged to be stationary. The OMR semiconductor element has two electrodes between which a voltage source generates an electrical voltage.
