A sample processing device includes a receiving chamber having a chamber inlet and a chamber outlet. The processing device also includes a metering portion having a metering reservoir fluidly coupled to the chamber outlet, and at least one vessel fluidly coupled to the metering reservoir by a syphon. The syphon is operable to actuate upon a preselected volume of liquid being received at the metering reservoir. The syphon includes a syphon inlet and a syphon outlet, with the syphon outlet being fluidly coupled to the vessel. The preselected volume of liquid corresponds to a volume of liquid necessary to deliver a metered volume of fluid to the vessel.

Processing device for processing a highly viscous sample

A specimen delivery cartridge includes a lower housing, and an upper housing. The upper housing is coupled to the lower housing at a hinge. The specimen delivery cartridge further comprises a testing chamber comprising a paper testing substrate. The paper testing substrate may include a wicking conduit and a plurality of test areas. The specimen delivery cartridge may also include a lens assembly proximate the plurality of test areas and operable to transmit light emissions from the plurality of test areas to an image sensor of a computing device. In some embodiments, the specimen delivery cartridge includes a testing substrate having a plurality of test areas made of an array of electrodes. Each electrode is printed on a first side of the testing substrate and coupled to a conductive via formed in the testing substrate and a conductive trace printed on a second, opposing side of the testing substrate.

Point-of-care diagnostic cartridge having a digital micro-fluidic testing substrate

A specimen processing apparatus includes a housing having a fluid supply reservoir, a specimen receiving chamber, a specimen collection reservoir, and an actuator coupled to the fluid supply reservoir. A liquid flow path extends from the fluid supply reservoir to the specimen receiving chamber, and to the specimen collection reservoir. The actuator is operable to propel a liquid from the fluid supply reservoir to the chamber. The specimen receiving chamber includes an inlet port, an outlet port, and a fluid flow guide disposed between the inlet port and the outlet port. In addition, the fluid supply reservoir is fluidly coupled to the inlet port and the outlet port is fluidly coupled to the specimen collection reservoir. The fluid flow guide may be operable to roil a liquid as it flows from the inlet port to the outlet port to facilitate the extraction of a specimen from a collection device.

Specimen delivery apparatus

A mating adaptor for use in assaying a specimen includes an adaptor body having a first receiving area for receiving a computing device and a second receiving area for receiving a specimen delivery cartridge. The mating adaptor further includes an actuator for transmitting a mechanical actuation signal to initiate a fluidic process of a specimen delivery cartridge. The first receiving area includes a first connector corresponding to a computing device connector and the second receiving area includes a second connector corresponding to a specimen delivery cartridge connector.

Mating adaptor for coupling a point-of-care diagnostic cartridge to a computing device

A specimen delivery apparatus includes a housing having a backplane. The backplane includes at least one fluid communication port. The housing has an open state and a closed state. A midplane has a cavity for holding a sample. The midplane is sealed within the housing when the housing is in the closed state. A first actuator is disposed to move fluid within the housing when the housing is in a closed state and the first bulb is actuated. Various embodiments provide for caching of the fluid as well as staging to permit further preparation of the specimen prior to delivery. Various features roil the fluid to assist in extraction, mixing, and transport of the sample with the fluid. A destructible seal prevents fluid communication through the fluid communication port while the seal is intact. Communication of fluid through the fluid communication port is enabled only when the destructible seal is not intact.

A specimen delivery cartridge is disclosed that includes a first housing portion, a second housing portion, a fluid dispenser, and a plunger. The plunger includes a plunger body having a first side and a second side. The second side faces away from the first side. The plunger further includes at least one post extending from the first side of the plunger body. The second side of the plunger body includes at least one actuator that is sized and configured to apply a compressive force onto the fluid dispenser when the plunger is depressed, and the plunger is thereby operable to actuate the fluid dispenser. When actuated, the fluid dispenser releases a reagent to a test specimen to facilitate testing for a target pathogen.
