Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may identify a throttling indicator for a shared resource associated with a modem at the UE. The CE may determine a configuration of the modem based on a configuration received from a Radio Resource Control layer of the UE. Based on the modem configuration and the throttling indicator, the UE may identify a throttling level to apply to the modem. The UE may adjust the modem configuration for communicating with a base station based on the throttling level in order to reduce resource usage below a usage threshold. By reducing usage of the shared resource by the modem, the UE may have a greater availability of the shared resource to meet the needs of other components of the UE. This may provide an improved user experience at the UE, among other benefits.

Modem throughput throttling

A user equipment (UE) includes a first communication component configured to use a first frequency band, such as ultra-wide band (UWB), and a second communication component configured to use an intermediate frequency (IF) band that overlaps with the UWB band, such as an IF millimeter wave (mmWave) band. The second communication component conducts an IF signal along an internal signal conduction line that may interfere with UWB processing. A processor of the UE is configured to detect an indication of such interference, and, in response to the indication of interference, control the second communication component to adjust a characteristic of the IF band signal to mitigate the interference, such as by reducing its signal strength. The amount by which the IF band signal strength is reduced may be controlled to achieve a desired tradeoff between various performance metrics, such as power consumption and quality of service.

Radio frequency coexistence mitigations within wireless user equipment handsets

A UE apparatus determines UE capability and signals UE capability information to a base station. The UE may signal RF capability information to the base station with reference to at least one band combination and signal other baseband parameter(s) (obp(s)) to the base station. The RF capability information indicate RF capability with reference to at least one other band combination parameter. The obp may be indicated on a per UE basis, a per band basis, a per band combination basis, a per band, per band combination basis; and/or a per CC, per band, per band combination basis. Each band combination may indicate a combination of a numerology, a layer and a bandwidth. In another example, a plurality of basebands may be defined, each baseband indicating a combination of a numerology, a layer and a bandwidth.

Size optimized encoding of capability structure for multicarrier systems

Systems and methods for simultaneously communicating over multiple air interfaces using a single transceiver are described herein. An input is received at a transceiver. The input has a first signal encoded using a first radio technology and a second signal encoded using a second radio technology. The input is converted from an analog domain to a digital domain. The input is separated into the first signal and the second signal in the digital domain.

System and method for simultaneous operation of multiple modems using a single transceiver

Embodiments include access terminals, computer readable media, and wireless communication systems. These sample a wireless spectrum portion that includes macro cell carrier and at least one other target carrier where non-macro cells are deployed, using a receive chain, a signal processor, and a controller. The wireless spectrum portion is processed to resolve portions corresponding to macro cell carrier and at least one additional carrier where target non-macro cells are deployed. The processed signal is searched for at least one target non-macro cell pilot and the macro carrier portion is used for a paging monitoring operation.

Non-macro cell search integrated with macro-cellular RF carrier monitoring

To determine the position of a mobile device located within a coverage area of a base station, the time of arrival (TOA) of the CDMA signal received by the mobile device from the base station is reduced in proportion to the received power of the CDMA signal. The mobile device uses the reduced TOA of the CDMA signals together with the received GPS signals to detect its position. Alternatively, the mobile device transmits the TOA and power measurements of the received CDMA signals to a position determination entity (PDE). The PDE biases the TOA to estimate the position of the mobile device and transmits assistance data to the mobile device, thereby enabling the mobile device to receive GPS signals. The received GPS signals alone, or in combination with the biased TOA are then used to recompute the position of the mobile device.

Excess delay estimation using total received power

A multi-carrier transmitter capable of transmitting on one or multiple frequency channels simultaneously is described. In one design, the multi-carrier transmitter includes at least one processor and a single radio frequency (RF) transmit chain. The processor(s) may generate output chips for each of multiple frequency channels, digitally filter and upsample the output chips for each frequency channel to obtain filtered samples, and digitally upconvert the filtered samples for each frequency channel to a different frequency to obtain upconverted samples. The processor(s) may then combine the upconverted samples for the multiple frequency channels to obtain composite samples, perform pre-distortion on the composite samples for I/Q mismatch compensation, and upsample the pre-distorted samples to obtain output samples. The output samples may be converted to an analog signal with a wideband DAC. The RF transmit chain may process the analog signal to generate an RF output signal.

Multi-carrier transmitter for wireless communication

An apparatus and method are disclosed for effectively and efficiently arbitrating concurrent usage between WLAN and Bluetooth access technologies for co-located wireless devices. A state level arbiter determines state and relevant parameters of a WLAN module and of a Bluetooth module of a wireless transceiver unit. The state level arbiter uses the state and relevant parameters to determine which access technology (WLAN or Bluetooth) or combination of the access technologies (WLAN or Bluetooth) will provide the best concurrent performance for wireless transmissions at a given time for specific Bluetooth states and WLAN states.

Method and apparatus for dynamic and dual antenna bluetooth (BT)/WLAN coexistence

A multi-carrier receiver capable of receiving one or multiple frequency channels simultaneously is described. In one design, the multi-carrier receiver includes a single radio frequency (RF) receive chain, an analog-to-digital converter (ADC), and at least one processor. The RF receive chain processes a received RF signal and provides an analog baseband signal comprising multiple signals on multiple frequency channels. The ADC digitizes the analog baseband signal. The processor(s) digitally processes the samples from the ADC to obtain an input sample stream. This digital processing may include digital filtering, DC offset cancellation, I/Q mismatch compensation, coarse scaling, etc. The processor(s) digitally downconverts the input sample stream for each frequency channel to obtain a downconverted sample stream for that frequency channel. The processor(s) then digitally processes each downconverted sample stream to obtain a corresponding output sample stream. This digital processing may include digital filtering, downsampling, equalization filtering, upsampling, sample rate conversion, fine scaling, etc.

Multi-carrier receiver for wireless communication

An access terminal for processing a communication signal includes a receiver. The receiver is configured to determine a bias point for the communication signal based on a quality measurement of the communication signal, the quality measurement having a carrier-to-interference (C/I) estimate associated therewith. The receiver is further configured to determine a C/I cap for the communication signal using the C/I estimate, the C/I cap being configured to cap a signal to interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) of the communication signal. In addition, the receiver is configured to process the communication signal using the determined bias point and the determined C/I cap. A method is also provided for processing a communication signal.

Method and apparatus for processing a communication signal

Techniques for inter-frequency neighbor list searching are disclosed. Embodiments disclosed herein address the need for inter-frequency neighbor list searching. In one embodiment, a searcher is deployed to search a PN space with a first set of search parameters and to return search results. A subset of those results is selected, along with a previously saved search result, to form a set of PN locations for a second search. The second search is performed on a window around each of the PN locations, using a second set of search parameters. The maximum peak from the second search is saved for use in future iterations. In one embodiment, the subset is selected as the highest energy level peaks from the first search. In one embodiment, if a maximum peak is deemed to correspond to a valid base station when the position of that maximum peak is within a pre-determined time offset from a previous maximum peak.

Inter-frequency neighbor list searching

A position determination system and apparatus for utilizing a network of cellular base stations to determine position of a mobile station includes taking a plurality of statistically independent data measurements of the pilot signals from the base stations. Each of the data measurements includes an earliest time of arrival, providing multiple independent measurements for each of the pilot signals. For each cellular base station, a representative measurement is calculated responsive to the independent measurements, which is used to determine position of the mobile station using an AFLT algorithm and/or in conjunction with a GPS algorithm. In some embodiments, the data measurements for each pilot signal further include an RMSE estimate and time of measurement for each time of arrival, and an energy measurement for all resolvable paths. If the mobile station comprises a cell phone, a cell search list and a GPS search list may be provided by a cell base station.

Position determination system that uses A cellular communication system

A receiver suppresses co-channel interference (CCI) from other transmitters and intersymbol interference (ISI) due to channel distortion using 'virtual' antennas. The virtual antennas may be formed by (1) oversampling a received signal for each actual antenna at the receiver and/or (1) decomposing a sequence of complex-valued samples into a sequence of inphase samples and a sequence of quadrature samples. In one design, the receiver includes a pre-processor, an interference suppressor, and an equalizer. The pre-processor processes received samples for at least one actual antenna and generates at least two sequences of input samples for each actual antenna. The interference suppressor suppresses co-channel interference in the input sample sequences and provides at least one sequence of CCI-suppressed samples. The equalizer performs detection on the CCI-suppressed sample sequence(s) and provides detected bits. The interference suppressor and equalizer may be operated for one or multiple iterations.

Interference suppression with virtual antennas

A method and device for combating cross-correlation false alarms by introducing code diversity in the correlation process in which the search code may be diversified by the use of code staggering and/or code scrambling. The energy levels of the signals before and after the search code have been diversified may be evaluated to detect a false alarm. In addition, a set of parameterized analytical models may be used to estimate the rate of false alarms from cross-correlation in wireless networks in order to guide development and design of wireless transceivers.

Method and device for reducing cross-correlation false alarms in CDMA and other wireless networks

A parameter estimator for estimating one or more parameter(s) from a correlation function derived from a signal using a dynamically variable integration time is described. The parameter estimator may be employed in a subscriber station to estimate the time of arrival of one or more base station or sector pilot signals in a wireless communication system. This information may be utilized in an overall advanced forward link trilateration (AFLT) process for estimating the location of the subscriber station.
