The invention is directed to a beverage brewing apparatus having a water reservoir (1) and a pump (6) powered by an electric motor (45), the pump pressurizing water from the water reservoir (1) and delivering it to a flow-through heater (11) heated by an electric heater (14). In the flow-through heater (11), water is heated in a water conduit (13) and subsequently fed to a pressure chamber (35), adapted to be filled with coffee grinds, of a brewing unit (34) from which, following an extraction operation, the brewed coffee flows into a receptacle (38, 39). According to the invention, a valve device (20) opening when a predetermined pressure is exceeded is provided in the fluid path (9, 13, 15) between the flow-through heater (11) and the brewing unit (34). As a result, the water current delivered by the pump (6) and flowing through the flow-through heater (11) is maintained nearly constant, causing a uniform transfer of heat in the flow-through heater (11) and avoiding a standstill condition of the electric motor (45). This also keeps the temperature control of both the flow-through heater (11) and the water heated in the flow-through heater (11) at an approximately constant level.

Beverage brewing apparatus

The present invention relates to a device for a beverage brewing machine for the heating and emulsification of liquids, in particular for the preparation of the coffee with milk beverage 'Cappuccino'. The device comprises a pipe and a nozzle succeeding in the lower section to the bore, from the orifice of which nozzle hot steam exits during operation. The nozzle is encompassed by the pipe such that an annular chamber is formed around the nozzle, which chamber is open in the direction of flow. The open end of the annular chamber extends beyond the orifice of the nozzle. Apertures are formed at the pipe at the level of the orifice of the nozzle, through which the air, which is necessary for the emulsification, can enter the annular chamber. Further, rib structure is provided at the pipe which permits a user to keep a defined distance between the orifice of the nozzle and the liquid's surface by visual check. Handling is considerably simplified during the emulsification of milk, because the visual check means permits a user to easily maintain the distance of the orifice of the nozzle from the surface of the milk. Good froth results are obtained.

A coffee maker having a heating device for heating water to the temperature necessary for producing a coffee drink. The coffee maker is equipped with an electrically powered pump for the delivery of water, with a bore being provided in the pump casing. Within the bore, a working piston reciprocates, its stroke determining a working chamber. The coffee maker is provided with a suction valve and a discharge valve, each including a valve closure body spring-loaded in the closing direction. The suction valve is opened by pressure below atmospheric and the discharge valve by pressure above atmospheric in the working chamber. The preparation of the coffee drink is accomplished by the pump drawing water through the suction valve and delivering it under pressure through the discharge valve to a brewing chamber adapted to be filled with coffee grinds from which it escapes following extraction. The pump draws hot water which is already preheated by the heating device to the temperature suitable for preparing the brew, with the suction valve being configured as a poppet valve. As a result, brewing water heated to a practically constant temperature is supplied to the material, irrespective of the firmness to which the coffee grinds are compressed and the fineness of the grind, and also irrespective of the quantity of coffee or espresso to be made, with the hot water being pumped to the brewing chamber without an appreciable drop in pump capacity occurring.

Coffee maker

An espresso coffee making system includes an unpressurized boiler vessel with an electric heating element arranged outside the boiler vessel for heating water in the boiler vessel for delivery to a perforated filter holder of the espresso coffee maker. A tube is provided between the electric heating element and the boiler vessel that is in thermal contact with both the heating element and the boiler vessel. A valve allows water from the boiler vessel to be recirculated by a pump through the tube to generate steam, without overheating the water contained in the boiler vessel.
