The invention relates to a method and apparatus for the elimination of odoriferous substances in gases or vapors produced by processes for the treatment of organic materials, for instance foodstuffs or luxury foods, in a processing plant. For the elimination of these odoriferous substances the invention proposes that the gases or vapors are supplied to a furnace installation of the processing plant and subjected therein to temperatures of at least 400.degree. C., the heat generated by the furnace installation being directly or indirectly, and at least in part, used for the respective treatment process. According to the invention, an apparatus for performing the method is characterized in that a gas or vapor discharge duct of a vessel used or heating, boiling, roasting, deep-frying, cooking and/or melting of the materials to be processed is connected to the furnace installation by a gas flow duct.

An evaporation cooling tower, includes an outer tower wall defining an interior of the cooling tower having upper and lower regions, the wall having ambient air intake holes formed in the periphery thereof at the lower region, a cooling water trickling system disposed in the interior of the cooling tower through which ambient intake air flows, electrostatic discharge shafts at the upper region for receiving relatively moist and warm exhaust air and precipitating fine water droplets therefrom, and a device for admixing relatively cool ambient air to the warm and moist exhaust air flowing to the discharge shafts.

Apparatus and method for the partial load operation of a combined gas turbine and steam turbine plant, including a shaft being connected to the gas turbine and drivable at a given nominal speed of rotation, a first generator being connected to the shaft and electrically connectible to an electric network, a compressor being connected to the shaft and connected upstream of the gas turbine in gas flow direction, a heat exchanger having an output and a variable heat supply and being connected upstream of the gas turbine in gas flow direction, a steam generator for the steam turbine being connected downstream of the gas turbine in gas flow direction for receiving exhaust gases therefrom, a second generator being connected to the steam turbine and electrically connectible to the electric network for supplying given nominal power thereto along with the first generator, means for giving to the electric network and taking away from the network at least part of the nominal power if the shaft rotates at less than the nominal speed of rotation, and means for reducing the speed of rotation of the gas turbine for preventing a substantial drop in temperature at the output of the heat exchanger if the heat supply of the heat exchanger is reduced.
