In one example implementation according to aspects of the present disclosure, a computer-implemented method includes: performing a rheology test on a test fluid, the test fluid being representative of a fluid pumped through the wellbore, to generate test fluid data; performing, by the processing device, a data analysis on the test fluid data to generate at least one parameterized correlation; measuring a first property of the fluid to generate measured data; calculating, by the processing device, a second property of the fluid in the wellbore by using the parameterized correlations and the measured data to generate calculated data; and changing a parameter of the wellbore construction operation based at least in part on the calculated data.

An embodiment of a method of performing an energy industry operation includes storing one or more sets of instructions at a storage location accessible by a controller configured to control aspects of an energy industry operation, the one or more sets of instructions retrieved from a library of sets of instructions, each set of instructions prescribing a standard procedure for performing a process forming part of the energy industry operation, the standard procedure based on best operating practices developed from previously performed operations independent of the process to be performed. The method also includes deploying a carrier in a borehole in an earth formation and performing an energy industry operation, monitoring the operation and, in response to detecting a condition associated with the process, automatically retrieving the set of instructions corresponding to the process, and automatically performing the process by the controller according to the retrieved set of instructions.

A method of drilling a borehole in an earth formation includes deploying a drilling assembly including a drill bit and a drill string, and performing a drilling operation according to one or more operational parameters to advance the drilling assembly through the formation, wherein performing the drilling operation includes rotating the drill bit and at least a portion of the drill string. The method also includes, during the advancing, monitoring a downhole condition, determining whether the downhole condition indicates at least one of a cuttings accumulation in the borehole and wear of a downhole component, and in response to the downhole condition indicating the cuttings accumulation or the wear, adjusting at least one operational parameter to induce or adjust an oscillating motion in the drill string, the oscillating motion causing at least one of a reduction in the cuttings accumulation and a reduction of wear of the downhole component.

System and method for characterization of downhole measurement data for borehole stability prediction

Disclosed herein is a method of locating and quantifying friction between a drillstring and a wellbore. The method includes, positioning a plurality of sensors within a wellbore, communicatively coupling the plurality of sensors, monitoring signals from the plurality of sensors, logging the sensed signals versus time versus depth of each of the plurality of sensors, locating at least one friction zone along the drillstring within the wellbore based on the logging and quantifying friction in the at least one friction zone based on the logging.

System and method to locate, monitor and quantify friction between a drillstring and a wellbore

The present invention provides drilling systems for drilling subsea wellbores. The drilling system includes a tubing that passes through a sea bottom wellhead and carries a drill bit. A drilling fluid system continuously supplies drilling fluid into the tubing, which discharges at the drill bit bottom and returns to the wellhead through an annulus between the tubing and the wellbore carrying the drill cuttings. A fluid return line extending from the wellhead equipment to the drilling vessel transports the returning fluid to the surface. In a riserless arrangement, the return fluid line is separate and spaced apart from the tubing. In a system using a riser, the return fluid line may be the riser or a separate line carried by the riser. The tubing may be coiled tubing with a drilling motor in the bottom hole assembly driving the drill bit. A suction pump coupled to the annulus is used to control the bottom hole pressure during drilling operations, making it possible to use heavier drilling muds and drill to greater depths than would be possible without the suction pump. An optional delivery system continuously injects a flowable material, whose fluid density is less than the density of the drilling fluid, into the returning fluid at one or more suitable locations the rate of such lighter material can be controlled to provide supplementary regulation of the pressure. Various pressure, temperature, flow rate and kick sensors included in the drilling system provide signals to a controller that controls the suction pump, the surface mud pump, a number of flow control devices, and the optional delivery system.
