Projections and mating recesses for a hinge interconnecting a blow-molded double-walled container and lid are formed to be snap fit together while the recesses are warm from molding. The hinge projections and recesses are blow molded without forming any opening through a hinge wall into an interwall space. After the hinge projections and recesses are assembled, interwall spaces of the body and lid are each filled with a pourable insulation material that sets to make the assembled hinge strong and durable.

A fire-resistant case for protecting electronic storage media includes a main body and lid, each of which is assembled from a pair of subassemblies. The outer subassemblies of the lid and main body are made from an integral resin body having inner, outer, and intermediate shells for encasing a layer of water-bearing material. The outer shells form the outer skin of the case, the inner shells form a moisture-resistant layer, and the intermediate shells form an outer seal between the main body and lid. An inner subassembly of the main body is built up from an inner repository of heat-conducting material, slabs of phase-changing material, and a foam insulation that encases the inner respository and phase-changing material. The foam insulation is formed as a self-skinning foam for forming a part of an inner seal between the main body and lid. An inner subassembly of the lid is constructed in a variety of ways consistent with the purposes of the other named layers of the case.

Media case

A heat storage composition for use as a medium to protect objects such as floppy disks from damage by heat is formed of a major portion by weight of the septahydrate of sodium carbonate and a lesser proportion by weight of the monohydrate of sodium carbonate, with the compositions being substantially free of cementitious materials and thixotropic agents.

Heat storage composition

A heat absorbing body made from a mixture of water, Portland cement, cellulose fibers, and a foaming agent, with or without other ingredients such as water glass and sodium sulfate. Polypropylene fibers may be used in place of part or all of the cellulose fibers. Cellulose fibers (conveniently reclaimed or recycled cellulose fibers) are preferably used because of their ability to absorb and retain relatively large amounts of water in the composition. Various formulas are given for the mixture. The material is used as a filling for the walls of fire resistant safes and storage boxes, and also for the construction of structural panels for furniture and building construction, and for cast-in-place walls and floors and roofs of buildings. In addition to the ability of the material to absorb heat in case of fire and thus keep the contents of a safe or container or room cooler than would otherwise be the case, the material is useful for heat storage and retrieval, absorbing and storing waste heat or solar heat during a hot day, and giving up or re-radiating the stored heat when needed, such as during a cool night.
