A plastic drywall accessory includes an elongated strip of plastic having a nose and at least one wing projecting outwardly from a stepped edge of the nose. A hinge of flexible plastic is interposed between the nose and wing, so the wing will closely conform to an associated wall surface. In a first embodiment, the accessory is co-extruded, with the wing and nose formed of a rigid plastic material and the hinge formed of a flexible plastic material. In a second embodiment, the accessory is co-extruded, with the nose formed of a rigid plastic material and the hinge and wing formed of a flexible plastic material.

Vinyl bead with flex wings

The corner bead of the present invention includes an elongated strip of metal material with a central arcuate nose and a pair of flanges extending outwardly from the nose. A paper strip is bonded only to the outward faces of each of the flanges, with a wing portion extending beyond the outer edge of each flange. Each paper strip begins proximal to, but does not cover the nose, such that the nose is exposed after installation of the corner bead on a wallboard corner. The paper strips are applied only to the outward face of each flange. In the method of the invention, a tape-on corner bead is provided with paper strips bonded only to the outer face of the flanges of the core strip, with portions of the strips overhanging the outer edges of the flanges to form wings. A layer of joint compound is applied to a wallboard corner, and the corner bead is applied, with the inward faces of the flanges and the wings in direct contact with the joint compound. A finish layer of joint compound is then applied over the outward face of the paper strips, extending from the nose of the corner bead and feathered onto the wallboard, leaving the nose of the corner bead exposed.

Drywall cornerbead with paper legs

A tape-on drywall accessory includes an elongated metal core strip with a longitudinal arcuate nose and a pair of flanges extending outwardly from the nose. A cover strip of paper is bonded to the exterior surface of the core strip, and includes wings that project outwardly beyond the extent of the flanges. The cover strip is formed of a non-latex-bearing stock paper having high pick resistance and which is dimensionally stable and has high peel bond strength when in contact with wet joint compound.

Paper bead

A corner bead includes an elongated strip of plastic material with a central arcuate nose and a pair of flanges extending outwardly from the nose. The outward faces of the flanges have knurling formed thereon, to retain joint compound in place during dressing of the corner. In the preferred form of the invention, the knurling is in the form of diamond-shaped depressions formed uniformly across the length and width of the flange outward faces. The method of forming the knurled surface in the bead includes the step of forming separate depressions in an outer face of a flange of the bead immediately after the extrusion process, prior to the material cooling.

A corner bead is of the tape-on type, having an elongated metal core strip with a longitudinal arcuate nose and a pair of flanges extending outwardly from the nose at approximately a right angle. A cover strip of paper is bonded to the exterior surface of the core strip, and includes wings which project outwardly beyond the extent of the flanges. The cover strip is formed of a stock paper having high abrasion resistance, tensile strength, and which is dimensionally stable on contact with wet joint compound.

Paper bead and trim

A corner bead is of the tape-on type, having an elongated metal core strip with a longitudinal arcuate nose and a pair of flanges extending outwardly from the nose at approximately a right angle. A cover strip of paper is bonded to the exterior surface of the core strip, and includes wings which project outwardly beyond the extent of the flanges. The cover strip is formed of a stock paper having high abrasion resistance, tensile strength, and which is dimensionally stable on contact with wet joint compound. The surface of the cover strip is abraded to partially loosen the surface fibers, which will increase the bond strength of the comer bead when installed on wallboard. The method of manufacturing a tape-on corner bead includes the steps of conditioning a strip of stock paper by abrading the surfaces of the paper, and then bonding the paper strip to an outward face of an elongated core.
