Actuation means for actuating a structural part in an automobile

A device for damping the movement of a movably supported structural part, in particular of a flap or the like in an automotive vehicle, where a tooth segment is located on the structural part, the tooth segment co-operating with a pinion which is associated with a rotary damping element and stationarily located relative to the structural part, whereby the rotary damping element is attached to a pivotally supported arm, in that the rotary damping element or the arm, respectively, has an extension, a guide portion being provided at the free end of the arm which co-operates with a guide path on the structural part such that the distance between the pinion and the tooth segment remains approximately constant.

A rotary damper comprising a housing and a cylindrical rotor rotatably supported in the housing, and an annular clearance between the rotor and housing being filled with a viscous flowable material, wherein the housing comprises a pivot extending from one end inwardly within the housing and forming an annular space with the housing; and the rotor comprises an annular cylindrical portion received by the annular space and forming annular clearances filled with the viscous material at both sides thereof.

Rotary damper

A rotary damper, in particular for actuated parts in automotive vehicles, comprising a housing including a cylindrical damper chamber, a liquid in the chamber, a rotatably supported shaft in the chamber having at least one vane such that upon rotation of the shaft displaced liquid flows through a flow constriction between the vane and the wall of the chamber, characterized in that the vane is inclined relative to the shaft in the circumferential direction of the shaft and relative to a diameter extending through the base of the vane, and that the vane is adapted to swing relative to the shaft such that upon a rotation of the shaft in one sense the vane is moved towards the chamber wall and upon rotation in the opposite sense the vane is moved towards the shaft.
