A device () for the on-demand commutation of an electrical current from a first line branch () to another, second line branch () is created, which has a number of power semiconductor switching elements (), which are arranged in series and/or parallel to one another in the second line branch (), and a control unit () for controlling the number of power semiconductor switching elements (). The control unit () is adapted to apply to each of the number of power semiconductor switching elements () an increased control voltage (VGE) whose level is above the maximum permissible control voltage specified for continuous operation, in order to switch on or maintain the conduction of the number of power semiconductor switching elements and to cause an increased current flow through it, whose current rating is at least double the nominal operating current. The control unit () is further adapted to switch off the number of power semiconductor switching elements after a respectively provided short switch-on duration by switching off the control voltage (VGE) again while they conduct an increased current flow. The device () can thus be designed for a higher power in operation, or, at a given operating power, the semiconductor area and size of the device () can be reduced.

A switch module includes a collector connection, an emitter connection, and a gate connection. The switch module includes a plurality of parallel connected switching elements, e.g., insulated-gate bipolar transistors, each having a collector electrode electrically connected to the collector connection, an emitter electrode electrically connected to the emitter connection, and a gate electrode electrically connected to the gate connection. A fault protection device is operatively electrically connected between the gate connection and the switching elements and comprises passive electrical components which are selected such that in the event of a fault in at least one of the plurality of switching elements, a gate-emitter voltage is provided to the gate electrodes of non-faulty switching elements in a passive manner.

Circuit arrangement and method for gate-controlled power semiconductor devices

A short-circuit device and a protection method for a submodule for a power converter are disclosed. The submodule includes a bridge circuit having at least one power semiconductor branch extending between a first and a second DC voltage node and at least one controllable power semiconductor switch disposed therein to which a freewheeling diode is connected in anti-parallel, and a capacitor connected in parallel to the bridge circuit. The short-circuit device has at least one selected of the freewheeling diodes anti-parallel to the power semiconductor switches of the bridge circuit, wherein the at least one selected freewheeling diode is manufactured in press pack design and rated such that, when a fault occurs in the submodule, the at least one selected freewheeling diode breaks down due to the fault conditions and provides a durable, stable, low-impedance short circuit path between a first and a second AC voltage connection of the submodule.

A ground fault is detected by measuring a voltage drop in a measuring resistor.

A method for operating an electrical circuit is described. The electrical circuit is equipped with a power converter () that has at least one series connection () consisting of at least four power semiconductor elements. The electrical circuit is equipped with at least one capacitor (Cd, Cd) connected in parallel to the series connection (). In the power converter (), at least one resistor has been connected in parallel to the middle two power semiconductor elements. In the method, at least one of the power semiconductor elements is conductively connected and in this way a discharging current is generated from the capacitor (Cd, Cd) through the conductively connected power semiconductor element and the resistor.

A method for operating an electrical power rectifier. The power rectifier comprises at least two branches that are connected in parallel to each other, each of the branches comprising at least two power semiconductor elements that are connected in series. An electrical circuit for a power converter is described. The circuit has been provided with several semiconductor switches and capacitors used for operating the power converter. A brake resistance for lowering energy is provided and is connected to the semiconductor switches provided without the need for an additional switch. The operation of the power converter and the current flowing through the brake resistance can be controlled by means of the existing semiconductor switches.

Disclosed is an electric circuit, in particular for a medium voltage power converter. The circuit has at least four semiconductor switches which form a series connection and which are connected to poles of a direct current voltage (Ud). A diode is connected in parallel in an inverse direction to each semiconductor switch. A capacitor is connected in parallel to the two semiconductors in the middle of the series connection. The circuit is provided with a pole of an output potential (Ua) which is connected centrally in the series connection. The circuit has a control device for successively controlling the semiconductor switches. In a secondary coil which is at least indirectly connected to the control circuit, and an insulating section formed between the primary coil and the secondary coil. The auxiliary energy is transmitted via the insulating section by way of a magnetic alternating field. The energy supply unit further includes a first carrier plate, a primary coil embodied as a flat coil situated on the first carrier plate, a second carrier plate, and a secondary coil embodied as a flat coil situated on the second carrier plate. The insulating section is embodied as an interferric space formed between the primary coil and the secondary coil.

A power converter includes at least one capacitor and at least two semiconductor power switches. Each capacitor includes a pair of connectors for connecting the capacitor to the at least two semiconductor power switches. Modular power converter

A device for carrying high currents at a low inductance, in particular for a power converter or the like, is provided with two flat electrical conductors which are arranged roughly parallel to each other and are spaced apart from each other. The space between the two conductors contains no transition from one of the two conductors to a solid-state insulator, and from there to the other of the two conductors. As a result, no aging phenomena can arise in the device according to the invention owing to partial discharges.
