The present invention relates to a bandage which preferably has a greater length than width and which comprises a center part (1a) and bandage securing ends (1b, 1c) located on mutually opposite sides of the center part. Only the securing ends of the bandage are provided on one side thereof with an adhesive coating for securing the securing ends to an area of skin. One securing end (1c) is intended to be affixed to a skin area (2) in the lumbar region while the other securing end (1b) is intended to be affixed to a skin area (3) in the region of the lower or intermediate thoraic vertebrae. The length of the tape (1) between the securing ends (1b, 1c) when the back is straight and in the correct posture (FIG. 1) is slightly shorter than the distance between the aforementioned skin areas when measured via the small of the back (4). The center part (1a) is detachably attached to one or both securing ends (1 b, 1c) by means of a velcro hook and loop attachment.

Corrective posture device

A corrective posture device attachable to a person's body for indicating to a person wearing the device when the person has an undesirable posture. The device includes two body attachment elements for attaching the device to the person at two spaced-apart locations and an adjustment member extends between the two elements for adjusting a distance between the two locations that the device can be extended without providing discomfort to the person wearing the device. The attachment elements include adhesive on one side thereof for adhering the device to skin of the person's body at the two locations and the adjustment member is removably attached to the two elements. The attachment elements and the member are removably secured together by a 'VELCRO' type attachment.

A dialysis system is disclosed for treatment of a first fluid with dialysis fluid, the dialysis fluid being a mixture of water and dialysis concentrate. The system comprises a dialyzer, a source of water, a source of dialysis concentrate, first and second fluid conducting means communicating with the sources of water and dialysis concentrate, pump means associated with the first and second fluid conducting means, and third fluid conducting means for conducting fluid from the pump means to the dialyzer. The pump means serves to draw water and dialysis concentrate through the first and second fluid conducting means respectively, and to mix the water and dialysis concentrate so that a mixture of water and dialysis concentrate is conducted through the third fluid conducting means.

Artificial kidney dialysate preparation system

A flow meter is provided for measuring the flow rate of fluid through a conduit having an inlet and an outlet, which includes a measuring chamber having a float disposed therein for movement in response to fluid flow, and a detector for detecting the movement of the float in the measuring chamber. Various devices are provided for controlling the path of fluid flow from the conduit outlet to the conduit inlet, which includes apparatus for allowing fluid to flow from the outlet through the measuring chamber in a first direction so as to move the float in the first direction past the detector, and for also allowing fluid to flow from the outlet through the measuring chamber in a second direction so as to move the float in the second direction past the detector. Apparatus is connected to the detector for measuring the rate of fluid flow in response to the movement of the float in the first and second directions.

Flow meter

Control apparatus for controlling or adjusting the position of a control member is disclosed. The control apparatus includes first and second members, pivotally connected together to pivot about a point. A control member is mounted on the first member and is disposed at a first distance from the pivot point. Coarse control means operatively associated with the control member are provided for coarsely adjusting the position of the control member relative to the second member. Further, fine control means are provided for finely adjusting the position of the control member relative to the second member. The fine control means acts at an action point on one of the first and second members to pivot the first and second members relative to each other about the pivot point. The action point at which the fine control means acts is a second distance from the pivot point which is greater than the first distance such that a selected amount of movement of the action point results in a change in position of the control member relative to the second member, the amount of change in position being less than the selected amount of movement.

Control apparatus for controlling positioning of a control member

A method and apparatus for sterilization of a dialysis system. The dialysis system comprises a dialyzer, a receptacle for water and a receptacle for dialysis concentrate, and fluid conducting means for conducting fluids from the receptacles for water and dialysis concentrate to and through the dialyzer. The method includes the steps of terminating the conducting of dialysis concentrate through the fluid conducting means, introducing sterilizing agent into the fluid conducting means at a first point in the fluid conducting means, conducting the sterilizing agent through the fluid conducting means downstream of the first point, and directing a portion of the sterilizing agent from a second point in the fluid conducting means to a third point in the fluid conducting means, the second point being downstream of the first point and the third point being upstream of the first point. The apparatus includes a source of sterilizing agent, means for introducing sterilizing agent into the fluid conducting means at a first point in the fluid conducting means, and fluid return means for conducting a portion of the sterilizing agent from a second point in the fluid conducting means to a third point in the fluid conducting means, the second point being downstream of the first point and the third point being upstream of the first point. With such a method and apparatus, sterilizing agent is conducted substantially throughout the fluid conducting means of the dialysis system.

Sterilization method and apparatus for dialysis system

An apparatus for treating blood is disclosed which comprises a dialyzer for treating the blood with a treatment liquid and a circulating system which is operative to circulate the treatment liquid through the dializer. The circulating system comprises heating means for heating the treatment liquid to a predetermined treatment temperature and for heating the treatment liquid to a cleaning temperature such that when the treatment liquid is circulated through the circulating system at the cleaning temperature it will effect cleaning thereof. The circulating system further comprises actuating means for actuating the heating means to heat the treatment liquid to the cleaning temperature which means are only operative to actuate the heating means when the circulating system is in communication with the actuating means whereby the actuating means will not be operative when the circulating system is in communication with the dialyzer.
