The disclosure relates to a method for operating a steering system for a motor vehicle, which steering system has, on the one hand, a steering handle which can be operated by a driver of the motor vehicle, and a hand torque adjuster which is assigned to the steering handle and is designed to apply a damper force, counteracting the operation by the driver, to the steering handle, and, on the other hand, a wheel angle adjuster which is coupled to at least one steerable wheel of the motor vehicle and which is electrically actuated as a function of operation of the steering handle in order to set a steering angle of the at least one wheel. There is provision that the damper force is generated by the manual torque adjuster as a function of a current performance of the wheel angle adjuster.

The invention relates to a method for assisting a driver in maneuvering a motor-vehicle combination () comprising, as vehicles, at least one tractor motor vehicle () and at least two trailers () coupled thereto, wherein a target articulation angle (&#x3b3;) at least between two of the vehicles () is externally specified and is adjusted by means of at least one steering actuator () of at least one of the vehicles (). The method comprises at least the following steps: a) dividing the motor-vehicle combination () into at least two sub-combinations () in such a way that adjacent vehicles () form a sub-combination () in pairs, in which sub-combination a first vehicle is used as a trailer unit () and a second vehicle is used as a tractor vehicle unit (), at least virtually; b) repeatedly determining a target angle (&#x3b1;, &#x3b3;, &#x3b3;) for a number of consecutive sub-combinations () from a specified target articulation angle (&#x3b3;, &#x3b3;) between the tractor vehicle unit () and the trailer unit (), beginning with the sub-combination () whose target articulation angle (&#x3b3;) was specified externally, wherein: &#x2014;the determined target angle is adjusted as a target steering angle (&#x3b1;) for the tractor vehicle unit () of the sub-combination () by means of the at least one steering actuator () of the associated vehicle () if the tractor vehicle unit () has the at least one steering actuator (), or &#x2014;the determined target angle is specified as the target articulation angle (&#x3b3;) for the next sub-combination ().

A method for remotely controlling a big rig comprises a tractor unit and one or more trailers coupled to the tractor unit, wherein the tractor unit comprises a drive train which can be electronically actuated by the control of the tractor unit and by way of which the tractor unit can be driven automatically. The control of the tractor unit have a wireless communication link to a touchscreen device so that automatic driving of the big rig can be remotely controlled by way of the touchscreen device during which at least one articulation angle between a longitudinal axis of the tractor unit and a longitudinal axis of the trailer is continuously regulated.
