An aqueous developable photographic element for forming neutral images comprising balanced cyan, magenta, and yellow heat-diffusible-dye-forming couplers in one or more image forming layers, and further comprising sensitized silver halide, a thermal solvent for nonaqueous, thermal dye-diffusion transfer, and hydrophilic binder, each independently in one or more image forming layers, an integral receiver layer for dye mordanting during nonaqueous, thermal dye-diffusion transfer, and one and only one dimensionally stable support, where said receiver layer is intermediate said support and image forming layers, and wherein said receiver layer and said support may be mechanically separated from said image forming layers by opposing forces is disclosed. Processes for forming a neutral photographic image using such elements and using elements that are similar, but lacking an integral receiving layer, are also disclosed.

A method of forming chromogenic photographic image comprising the steps of: providing an aqueous developable photographic element coated on a single dimensionally stable support, wherein said element comprises in reactive association (1) a developing agent, where said developing agent is a primary amine or a precursor of a primary amine, (2) radiation sensitive silver halide, (3) a color coupler compound that forms or releases a dye upon reaction with the oxidation product of a primary amine developing agent, and (4) a hydrophilic binder; exposing said element to actinic radiation; and developing said image by contacting said element with an applied volume of an aqueous processing solution, wherein said applied volume is limited to less than 800% of the swell volume of said element in equilibrium-mechanical contact with said processing solution or the temporal duration of said contacting is limited to a time less than 500% of the time necessary for said element to swell to 90% of said swell volume.

A process for forming a dye image including the steps of: (a) exposing a photographic element comprising a light sensitive silver halide emulsion layer containing a color coupler compound capable of forming a heat transferable dye upon development; (b) developing the exposed element resulting from step (a) with a color developer solution to form a heat transferable dye image; (c) heating the exposed, developed element resulting from step (b) to thereby transfer the dye image from the emulsion layer to a dye receiving layer which is part of the photographic element or part of a separate dye receiving element brought into contact with the photographic element; and (d) separating the emulsion layer from the dye receiving layer containing the transferred dye image; wherein the color coupler compound is of the following formula (I):

Heat image separation system

A color photographic element for use with a latent or silver image intensification or amplification method which incorporates a blocked color developing agent. The color photographic element includes at least one silver halide emulsion layer which includes at least about 70 mole percent chloride and has a concentration of silver within the range of about 0.1 mg/m.sup.2 to 2000 mg/m.sup.2. The blocked color developing agent is capable of being unblocked during photographic processing by means of reaction with a dinucleophile reagent. A preferred dinucleophile reagent is hydrogen peroxide, which also acts as an oxidant in the latent or silver image intensification method.

The invention is generally accomplished by a method wherein a dry photographic image is formed in an imaging-forming donor layer. The formed image is allowed to diffuse to a receiver layer. A dry acceptor layer is brought into contact with the image-forming layer and then separated such that the image-forming layer is adhered to the acceptor layer. It is preferred that the contact of the acceptor layer and the image-forming layer is under heat and pressure and the preferred material for both layers is dry gelatin.

A color transfer imaging element comprising a support having thereon an imaging layer comprising a thermographic, photothermographic, or electrographic material capable of forming an image which absorbs or scatters light or infrared radiation, and a dye layer from which a dye image can be transferred to an image receiver when the imaging element is overall exposed to radiation that is absorbed or scattered by the imaged areas of the imaging layer, thereby causing imagewise heating of the dye. The dye layer is positioned relative to the other layers so as to allow this imagewise transfer of dye to the image receiver.

In a dry physical development photothermographic element for a dry thermal silver-dye bleach process wherein the element comprises a silver halide complexing concentration of a silver halide complexing agent improvements are provided when the complexing agent is an organic ammonium chloride, bromide or iodide. After imagewise exposure of the element, a dye image can be produced by uniformly heating the element. Improvements are also produced by providing a dry activator element for producing a dye image in a separate photographic element by means of a dry physical development thermal dye-bleach process, wherein the activator element comprises a support having thereon a layer comprising a synthetic hydrophobic polymeric binder, a silver halide complexing concentration of a silver halide complexing agent, as described, a bleachable dye and a thermal solvent.

In a heat developable photographic material and process for providing a dye enhanced silver image, an element comprising a support having thereon in reactive association: (A) at least one heat developable photographic layer comprising (i) photosensitive silver halide, (ii) at least one active silver halide developing agent, (iii) an activating concentration of a development activator precursor, and (iv) a polymeric binder and (B) at least one layer comprising an azoaniline dye that is bleached in the non-image areas of the described element upon development of a latent image in the layer (A) by uniformly heating, can provide an improved image. After imagewise exposure of the described heat developable material, a dye enhanced silver image can be provided by heating the element containing the described combination of layers and materials.

Heat developable material and process

In a photothermographic element, composition or process for producing developed images employing processing with heat, a combination comprising (a) photographic silver halide in association with (b) an oxidation-reduction image-forming combination comprising (i) a silver salt oxidizing agent and (ii) a reducing agent which is a 2,6-dichloro or 2,6-dibromo-4-sulfonamidophenol such as the corresponding benzenesulfonamidophenol, and (c) a four equivalent color-forming coupler, and (d) a polymeric binder, provides an image in color. After imagewise exposure of the photothermographic element or composition, a color image can be developed by heating the photothermographic element or composition containing this combination. The combination can be in a diffusion transfer, photothermographic element.
