The present disclosure relates to textile care agents and to optically clear and transparent fabric softener formulations which also have a viscous consistency, containing a combination of special ester quats with nonionic emulsifiers and cationic thickeners, to the use of said textile care agents and fabric softener formulations. A rheology modifier obtainable by polymerizing (i) at least one ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid; (ii) at least one nonionic ethylenically unsaturated surfactant monomer, (iii) at least one C-C-alkyl methacrylate, and (iv) at least one C-C-alkyl acrylate, where the alkyl chain length averaged over the number of alkyl groups of the alkyl acrylate is 2.1 to 4.0. The polymerization is carried out in the presence of at least one hydrocarbon comprising at least one XH-group, wherein X is selected from the group consisting of O, P, N and S. Liquid formulations and particles containing liquid detergents comprising the rheology modifier are also described.

A paper size which comprises a stable aqueous dispersion of a reactive size, from 5 to 100% by weight, based on the reactive size, of a substantially linear nitrogen-comprising polymer having at least 3 mmol/g of basic nitrogen atoms, and from 1 to 50% by weight of cationic starch having a degree of substitution of at least 0.05 is described. The paper size has a good sizing effect and a stable viscosity.

A water-soluble or water-dispersible copolymer comprises copolymerized units a) of at least one ethylenically unsaturated monomer with a saccharide side group and b) of at least one hydrophilic ethylenically unsaturated monomer different from (meth)acrylamide, where the weight fraction of the ethylenically unsaturated monomers with a saccharide side group is 5 to 95% by weight. The copolymers exhibit high affinity to inorganic surfaces or hydrophilic fibers, such as cotton. They serve as soil release and/or graying-inhibiting polymers in textile detergents or minimize the risk of microbial colonization of materials coated therewith.
