A circuit to modulate the power supply to track input or output voltages provided to or output by a plurality of amplifiers to reduce power dissipation is provided. The circuit may include a peak detection circuit configured to receive a plurality of voltages respectively corresponding to the plurality of amplifiers, and to detect and output information regarding a maximum instantaneous voltage from the received plurality of voltages, and a summing circuit configured to output a sum of the information regarding the maximum instantaneous voltage and an amplifier headroom voltage. A reference voltage may be provided for the supply voltage responsive to the output sum. The circuit may also include a scaling circuit configured to scale the output sum, and the reference voltage may be a scaled reference voltage output by the scaling circuit.

Method and apparatus for modulating amplifier supply voltage for reducing power dissipation

An apparatus and method for reducing an output voltage ripple of a converter are provided. The apparatus may include a controller for controlling a converter, wherein the controller may include a clock generating circuit that generates a periodic clock signal containing periodic clock pulses, and a control circuit that causes the clock generating circuit to asynchronously initiate a clock pulse based on a difference between a feedback voltage of the converter and a reference voltage. The apparatus may also include an on-time modulation circuit which modulates the on-time based on the difference between the reference voltage and the sampled output voltage.

Method and apparatus for reducing output voltage ripple in hysteretic boost or buck-boost converter

A high power-factor buck-boost converter having a rectified low-frequency AC line voltage input and a DC output is provided. The converter may include a magnetic element, a controlled switch having a gate terminal and a drain terminal that is coupled to the magnetic element, a rectifier diode coupled to the magnetic element, an output smoothing capacitor coupled to the rectifier diode, and a control circuit having an output coupled to the gate terminal of the controlled switch for repeatedly turning the controlled switch off for a first time duration and on for a second time duration. The second time duration may be determined as a function of the first time duration immediately preceding the second time duration.

A current driver for powering a string of LEDs has a boost converter coupled to an input voltage source. A voltage multiplier circuit is coupled to the boost converter and to the string of LEDs. A current comparator is provided having an output coupled to a first input of the latch, a first input coupled to the current sense element, and a second input coupled to a reference current. A zero-volt detector circuit is provided having an output coupled to a second input of the latch and an input coupled to the boost converter and the voltage multiplier circuit.

A switching power converter has an input voltage source. An output load is coupled to the input voltage source. An inductive element is coupled to the load. A switch is coupled to the inductive element. A current reference input is provided. A control circuit is coupled to the switch and the current reference input for activating and deactivating the switch. The inductive element receives power from the input voltage source when the switch is activated and conducting continuous current. The control circuit deactivates the switch after a controlled delay time when the current in the inductive element and the switch exceeds the current reference input so that an average current in the inductive element is determined by a magnitude of the current reference input.

A system and method for delivering regulated power and current to an output load has a flyback transformer having a primary winding and a secondary winding. The secondary winding delivers stored energy to the output load. An oscillator circuit is provided for generating a periodical signal. A switching circuit is coupled to the flyback transformer and the oscillator circuit for energizing the primary winding to a reference current level each cycle of the oscillator circuit. The oscillator circuit has an integrator for deriving a time integral of a voltage at the primary winding. The oscillator circuit has a peak detector coupled to the integrator for holding a peak value of the time integral. The oscillator circuit further has a ramp generator for producing a ramp signal. A comparator is provided for comparing the peak value with the ramp signal and generating the periodical signal whenever the ramp signal exceeds the peak value.
