Methods of forming a glass-ceramic article, the method are provided. Embodiments of the method may include initially nucleating a precursor glass composition at a first nucleation temperature and maintaining the first nucleation temperature for a pre-nucleating time period to produce a pre-nucleated crystallizable glass composition, wherein the pre-nucleated crystallizable glass composition comprises 5 wt % to 20 wt % crystalline phase ASTM C1365-18, forming the pre-nucleated crystallizable glass composition into an initial 3D shape; further nucleating the initial 3D shape for a nucleating time period to a second nucleation temperature to produce a nucleated crystallizable glass composition; and ceramming the nucleated crystallizable glass composition to a crystallization temperature and maintaining the ceramming temperature for a crystallization time period to produce the glass-ceramic article. The glass-ceramic article may have a final 3D shape is within 0.1 mm of the original design specifications.

Glass ceramic articles having improved properties and methods for making the same

A method for ceramming a glass article to a glass-ceramic includes placing a glass article into a heating apparatus, and heating the glass article to a first hold temperature at a first predetermined heating rate. The glass article is held at the first hold temperature for a first predetermined duration. The viscosity of the glass article is maintained within log viscosity &#xb1;1.0 poise during the first predetermined duration. The glass article is then heated from the first hold temperature to a second hold temperature at a second predetermined heating rate. The glass article is held at the second hold temperature for a second duration. A density of the glass article is monitored from the heating of the glass article from the first hold temperature through the second duration, and the second duration is ended when an absolute value of a density rate of change of the glass article is less than or equal to 0.10 (g/cm)/min.

Systems, apparatuses and methods for processing a glass ribbon (). A glass ribbon is supplied to an upstream side of a conveying apparatus () comprising a conveyor device and a pulling device (). A viscosity of the glass ribbon at the third bend is greater than a viscosity of the glass ribbon at the first bend.

A method for forming a three dimensional glass ceramic article including placing a nucleated glass article into a mold, and heating the nucleated glass article to a crystallization temperature, where the nucleated glass article is in the mold during the heating. A method for determining crystal phases of a glass ceramic sample, including the steps of applying energy to the sample using an excitation source, detecting raw Raman spectral energy that is given off by the sample using a detector, wherein the raw Raman spectral energy includes peak values, determining a plurality of predetermined energy peaks based off a composition of the sample, superimposing the plurality of predetermined energy peaks over the raw Raman spectral energy, applying a baseline value between each predetermined energy peak, subtracting the baseline value from the raw Raman spectral energy, calculating corrected peak values based on the raw Raman spectral energy and baseline value, and determining the crystal phases of the glass ceramic sample based on the corrected peak values.

Method of phase quality control for glass ceramics in manufacturing

Embodiments disclosed herein include systems and methods for controlling material warp that include placing the shaped mold in a heating device, forming a glass material into a shaped mold, and cooling the glass material and the shaped mold to a predetermined viscosity of the glass material. Some embodiments include, a predetermined time prior to removing the glass material and the shaped mold from the heating device, holding the glass at the mold in the heating device where the heating device temperature is substantially equal to mold and glass temperature just prior to exiting to ambient temperature. Some embodiments include removing the glass material and the shaped mold from the heating device to further cool the glass material and the shaped mold at ambient temperature, where after removing the glass material and the shaped mold from the heating device, the glass material will exhibit controlled or desired material warp.

According to one embodiment, a method of manufacturing a glass article having a three-dimensional shape includes heating a glass article blank to a temperature above a setting temperature and coupling the glass article blank to an open-faced mold. The open-faced mold includes a molding region that has a three-dimensional shape that generally corresponds to the shape of the glass article and has an anisothermal temperature profile within the molding region. The method further includes maintaining an anisothermal temperature profile along the glass article blank and cooling the glass article blank while the glass article blank is coupled to the molding region of the open-faced mold to set the shape of the glass article.
