A system for determining occupancy in an environment is provided. The system includes plurality of sensor bundles, with each bundle including a presence sensor and a motion sensor. The system further includes a controller in communication with each sensor bundle. The controller is configured to designate one of the sensor bundles as presence triggered if persons are present within a field of view of the presence sensor. The controller is further configured to designate one of the sensor bundles as motion triggered if persons are moving within a field of view of the motion sensor. The controller is further configured to determine a triggered bundle count of the sensor bundles which are both presence triggered and motion triggered. The controller is further configured to determine an occupancy count for the environment based upon the triggered bundle count.

Systems and methods for fusing data from single pixel thermopiles and passive infrared sensors for counting occupants in open offices

A system and methods are provided for an immersive group lighting interaction. A lighting infrastructure includes a plurality of independently controllable lighting devices. According to an embodiment, users may be granted access to control at least a portion of the lighting infrastructure. Rather than requiring the user to manually control the lighting infrastructure using, for example, the touch screen, a sensor associated with the user's mobile device may track the user. The sensor data may be classified and then mapped to a corresponding control instruction to control the lighting infrastructure. In another embodiment, a computing system receives sensor classifications from multiple users. If a threshold amount of a type of classification is received, the computing system controls a lighting infrastructure according to that type of classification.

System and methods to provide immersive lighting interaction

A system and methods are provided for group lighting interaction. A lighting infrastructure includes a plurality of simultaneously and independently controllable lighting devices. As various users request access to control the lighting infrastructure, the system and methods involve dynamically partitioning the lighting devices into subsets and then allocating each subset to a corresponding requesting user. The dynamic partitioning may be based on each user's respective location or the time each user requested access to control the lighting infrastructure.

A system and method for determining a number of occupants at a location using multiple modalities. The method includes gathering a first data set with a motion sensor of the lighting system. A second data set is gathered with a transceiver of an RF subsystem. First and second estimates are calculated from the second data set using first and second algorithms. The first estimate and the second estimate are fused to create a fused occupant estimate. The first algorithm, the second algorithm, or both the first algorithm and the second algorithm are trained by inputting the second occupant estimate and/or the second set of data to recalibrate parameters of the first algorithm and/or inputting the first occupant estimate and/or the first set of data to recalibrate parameters during training of the second algorithm. A building control system can operated in response to the fused occupant estimate.

Each emergency support system continuously monitors for motion to identify anomalous motion activity on a local level. In response, a notification is sent to a base station that provides a global analysis by collecting motion data from nearby emergency support systems. Visitors can be identified by using network connection data () that includes entries corresponding to personal devices of visitors to a city. The network connection data can be filtered to identify how many personal devices are associated with people visiting from a different city. If the number of visitors exceeds some threshold relative to non-visitors, a lighting arrangement in the city can be controlled to display features that would appeal to the visitors. The features can correspond to aspects of the city where the visitors are from and can therefore make the city more attractive.

The described embodiments relate to systems, methods, and apparatuses for controlling energy resources available to micro-grids of a city based on mobility patterns of people moving within the micro-grids. The mobility patterns can be identified using a network of sensors within each micro-grid for collecting data related to the movement of people within the micro-grids. The mobility patterns can be used to estimate energy demand for each micro-grid and prioritize the energy demands to determine the energy resources that would be suitable for supplying power to each micro-grid. Based on the selected mobility pattern, usage in the area of a plurality of OWC-based mobile apps () may be predicted (). One or more OWC resources of at least one of the one or more lighting units may be allocated () for transmission of data to one or more of the plurality of OWC-based mobile apps operating on one or more mobile devices operated within the area. In various embodiments, the allocating may be based at least in part on the predicted usage.

Systems and methods for improved optical wireless communications based on mobility patterns

The described embodiments relate to systems, methods, and apparatuses for controlling lights () in an area of a city () based on demographic data and/or mobility pattern data (). Using the demographic data and/or the mobility pattern data, the lights can be arranged to attract people () to the area () where the lights are located. The mobility pattern data can be used to identify when people are typically moving towards the area, in order that the lights can be prepared to attract people in advance of their arrival. Furthermore, an output of the lights can be measured to measure certain characteristics about the lights so that the lights can be adjusted to better appeal to the demographic of people in the area.

System and method for managing lighting based on population mobility patterns

A fault detection system () for detecting faulty devices among a first plurality of serviceable devices () is provided. The serviceable devices have a wireless transmitter () arranged to periodically transmit a wireless signal () that encodes a device identifier. Mobile devices have a receiver () arranged to receive the wireless signal of a serviceable device within the transmission range, and to obtain the device identifier from the wireless signal. An apparatus, a system and a method for improving the determination of occupancy in an area is disclosed. The apparatus represents a motion sensor that provides improved granularity of the determination of motion within a first time period, wherein samples are collected during the first time period and then integrated over the first time period to determine a level of motion. The determined level of motion during the first time period are stored and transmitted at the end of a second time period. In one aspect of the invention, the occupancy is determined based on the collected level of motion inpreceding first time periods. In another aspect of the invention, the collected information is transmitted over a network, where the transmitted data may be further collected and processed.
