A transmit power optimization and rate-control system includes a transmitter circuit having one or more power amplifiers transmit radio-frequency (RF) signals at a transmission (Tx) rate and a Tx power level. A receiver circuit receives RF signals, decodes the received RF signals and provides one or more Tx status feedbacks. A rate-control module adjusts the Tx rate based at least on a channel condition. A probing engine generates at least two consecutive frames at a first Tx power level, and a second Tx power level in response to a trigger causes the transmitter to transmit the at least two consecutive frames, and processes respective Tx status feedbacks received in response to transmission of the two consecutive frames in order to optimize the Tx power of the transmitter.

Rate control with transmitter power optimization

A device implementing unified coordination of wireless communications over multiple physical layers may include a MAC module communicatively coupled to first and second physical layer modules that are each configured to communicate with another device over first and second physical wireless channels, respectively. The MAC module may be configured to provide data to the first physical layer module for transmission to the another device over the first physical wireless channel, where the first physical wireless channel is associated with a first link parameter. The MAC module may be further configured to facilitate initializing the second physical wireless channel based at least in part on the first link parameter of the first physical wireless channel, and after initialization of the second physical wireless channel, provide second data to the second physical layer module for transmission to the another device over the second physical wireless channel.

Unified coordination of multiple physical layer devices

In some aspects, the disclosure is directed to methods and systems for utilizing protocols to enable two 802.11 devices to exchange their dynamically-changing local channel availability table and form a mutual channel availability table with time, frequency, and transmission rate domains available. This table may be used to make optimum opportunistic use of link resources by adapting packet duration, frequency utilization and transmission rate to channel conditions.

Protocols for flexible channel utilization

A device implementing unified media access control (MAC) for multiple physical layer devices may include at least one processor communicatively coupled to first and second physical layer modules that are configured to communicate with another device over first and second wireless channels, respectively. The at least one processor may be configured to receive one or more data items to be transmitted to the another device and to select at least one of the first or second physical layer modules for transmission of the one or more data items based at least in part on a first condition of the first physical wireless channel and a condition of the second physical wireless channel. Unified media access control (MAC) for multiple physical layer devices

A device implementing unified media access control (MAC) for multiple physical layer devices may include a MAC module communicatively coupled to first and second physical layer modules that are configured to communicate with another device over first and second physical wireless channels, respectively. The MAC module may be configured to receive one or more data items to be transmitted to the another device and to select at least one of the first or second physical layer modules for transmission of the one or more data items based at least in part on a first wireless link quality of the first physical wireless channel and a second wireless link quality of the second physical wireless channel. The MAC module may be further configured to provide the one or more data items to the selected at least one of the first or second physical layer modules for transmission to another device.

The present disclosure is directed to systems, apparatuses, and methods for operating a wireless local area network (WLAN) modem to perform WLAN channel change in a WLAN environment that is inhabited by radar devices, and therefore subject to a Dynamic Frequency Selection (DFS) requirement defined by the appropriate WLAN governing standards. Specifically, the present disclosure is directed to an apparatus and method for reducing or eliminating the amount of time in which a WLAN transceiver cannot transmit/receive data traffic while listening for radar signals on a channel allocated to radar devices for the minimum listening time specified by DFS.

Wireless local area network with zero-wait dynamic frequency selection

A wireless communication device includes a first circuit including a baseband circuit and a radio circuit, and at least one frontend module (FEM) remote from the first circuit and placed in close proximity to and coupled to at least one radio-frequency (RF) antenna. The FEM is coupled to the first circuit via interface circuitry. An FEM comprises a frontend (FE) circuit including one or more low-noise amplifiers (LNAs), one or more power amplifiers (PAs), and at least one of a multi-pole switch and a multiplexer. The multi-pole switch and the multiplexer being implemented on a first side of the FEM coupled to the interface circuitry. The interface circuitry includes at least some of filters, splitters, multi-pole switches, and multiplexers to reduce a count of interconnect routes to the at least one FEM.

A method and apparatus is disclosed to process a received single stream communication signal and/or a multiple stream communication. A communications receiver is configured to receive the received communication signal. A communications receiver determines whether the received communication signal includes a single stream communication signal or a multiple stream communication signal. The communications receiver determines whether a received communication signal complies with a known single stream communications standard. The communications receiver determines whether the received communication signal complies with a known multiple stream communications standard. Carrier selection for multiple antennas

A method of calibrating the slope of a received signal strength indicator circuit is disclosed. An embodiment of the present invention may adjust for manufacturing process, power supply voltage, and ambient temperature variations by periodically calibrating the measurement of receive signal strength in a RF communication device, using the transmitter of the device. Various embodiments of the present invention may use a look-up table to convert unadjusted receive signal strength values to adjusted receive signal strength values, may adjust the operation of the circuitry generating an indication of receive signal strength, and may adjust thresholds in executable code used to manage the operation of the radio frequency communication system.

RSSI slope calibration technique

Embodiments of a wireless transceiver are provided. Embodiments can be used in multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) wireless transceivers. In an embodiment, radio control signal bundles are provided as direct parallel interconnects between digital signal processing modules and the radio module of the wireless transceiver to enable a precise low-latency control of radio functions. In another embodiment, a separate physical line is provided to control each radio setting of the radio module, thereby enabling simultaneous real-time control of any number of radio settings. In a further embodiment, the various digital and analog components of the wireless transceiver are integrated within a single chip of the same process technology.
