Various aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communication. In some aspects, a radio unit may output capability information regarding a number of beamforming codebooks supported by the radio unit. The radio unit may obtain configuration information that configures one or more beamforming codebooks for an antenna array of the radio unit. The radio unit may communicate using the one or more beamforming codebooks. Numerous other aspects are described.

Capability for multiple beamforming codebooks

Aspects relate to provision of a control message, such as an extension data section, that includes an indication of the repeat of highest priority data sections. The control message may be generated in a distributed unit (DU) and conveyed to a radio unit (RU) via a fronthaul link. The control message may include either a flag or bits in a field of an extension data section allowing a RU to determine repeat of the highest priority data section based on reception of the flag or processing of the bit value in the field. Additionally, the indication of repetition of the highest priority section may be based on a section identifier transmitted by a DU, wherein an RU receiving the section identifier may determine repeat of the highest priority data section by tracking the received section identifier.

Optimized handling of high priority data sections in a communication system

An RF connection matrix may include first and second carrier-specific RF connection matrix modules. The first carrier-specific RF connection matrix module can be adapted to route a first downlink transmission to one or more remote antenna units for transmission on a first carrier. The second carrier-specific RF connection matrix module can be adapted to route a second downlink transmission to one or more remote antenna units for transmission on a second carrier. Methods for facilitating simulcasting and de-simulcasting may include receiving a signal associated with a sector ID, which signal includes a first downlink transmission for a first carrier and a second downlink transmission for a second carrier. The first downlink transmission can be routed to one or more remote antenna units for transmission on the first carrier. The second downlink transmission can be routed to one or more remote antenna units for transmission on the second carrier.

Apparatus and methods for facilitating simulcasting and de-simulcasting in a distributed antenna system

A packet-based processing system suitable for various applications, such as for a base station or a terminal in a wireless communication system, is described. The packet-based processing system may include multiple processing modules and at least one transport module. The processing modules may send packets to one another via a common packet interface and may operate asynchronously. The transport module(s) may forward the packets sent by the processing modules and may operate asynchronously with respect to the processing modules. Each processing module may include a network interface, at least one buffer, a packet parser, a packet builder, and at least one processing unit. Each processing module may support at least one service. Each packet may include a header and a payload. The header may include a source service address for a source service sending the packet and a destination service address for a recipient service receiving the packet.

Packet-based processing system

A receiver operates to AGC a multi-carrier signal through a corresponding number of inner loops and an outer loop AGC processes. A first number of bits for representing the multi-carrier signal with a limited amount of interference is determined through a calibration mode process. The first number of bits provides for quantization of the multi-carrier signal at an outer loop AGC to a maximum quantization level. After the received signal power estimate is reached a predetermined 'ON' threshold, the outer loop AGC is operated at a second number of bits higher than the first number of bits to allow a quantization of possible interference in accordance with a difference of the first and second number of bits. The outer loop AGC switches back to use the first number of bits when the received signal power estimate falls below a predetermined 'OFF' threshold.

Method and apparatus for automatic gain control of a multi-carrier signal in a communication receiver

A concatenated encoder capable of coding multiple data bits in parallel and including a first (outer) encoder, a memory, and a second (inner) encoder coupled in cascade. The first encoder receives and codes M data bits in parallel in accordance with a first coding scheme to generate MR code bits. The memory receives and stores unpunctured ones of the MR code bits from the first encoder. The second encoder receives and codes N code bits in parallel in accordance with a second coding scheme to generate coded data. M and N can be any values (e.g., M&gE;8, N&gE;4). Each encoder can be a (e.g., a rate &frac12;) convolutional encoder that implements a particular polynomial generator, and can be implemented with one or more look-up tables, a state machine, or some other design.
