A sighting device is used to aim along a line of sight at a target. The sighting device includes a reticle structure formed of a roof prism assembly having an inclined final roof-prism mirror surface that is not perpendicular to the line of sight. The inclined final roof-prism mirror surface is the last surface of the roof prism assembly from which an optical path of the target reflects before leaving the roof prism assembly. There are two sets of sighting reference features, wherein the sets of sighting reference features are disposed on the inclined roof-prism mirror surface. A separately operable illumination source is provided for each of the sets of sighting reference features, wherein each illumination source illuminates only one set of sighting reference features.

An optical measurement apparatus operable with a test specimen has a light source with a laser having an output beam, and a beam splitter that splits the output beam of the laser into a first split beam and a second split beam. A test specimen holder holds the test specimen therein. A first optical fiber receives the first split beam and directs the first split beam against the test specimen in the test specimen holder. The apparatus further includes an instrumentation module. A second optical fiber receives the second split beam and conducts the second split beam to the instrumentation module. A third optical fiber receives signal light from the test specimen in the test specimen holder and conducts the signal light to the instrumentation module.

Optical measurement apparatus with laser light source

An optical fiber and an optical component, such as a collimating lens, are positioned along an optical axis. An alignment end of the optical fiber is first positioned so that the optical fiber axis is coincident with the optical axis, and visible light passing through the optical fiber is focused upon an imaging light detector, without the optical component present on the optical axis. The optical component is inserted onto the optical axis and coarse positioned using visible light transmitted through the optical fiber and through the optical component to be incident upon a light energy detector. The optical component is thereafter fine positioned using infrared light transmitted through the optical fiber and through the optical component to be incident upon the imaging light detector. The optical fiber and the optical component are thereafter fixed in position.

Optical positioning of an optical fiber and an optical component along an optical axis

A cylindrical article is positioned relative to a support surface by supporting the cylindrical article from a first pair of ball bearings contacting the cylindrical article adjacent to its first end, and a second pair of ball bearings contacting the cylindrical surface adjacent to its second end. At least one of the ball bearings is moved relative to the cylindrical article to reposition the cylindrical article. The repositioning may be performed under feedback control of actuators that move the ball bearings. The article may be fixed relative to the support surface after it is properly positioned.
