Systems and methods for providing a file system with object versioning support are provided. Rather than adding object records for each version of an object to a chapter database, in one example, the chapter database may be limited to a single object record for a given object including: (i) a name of the object; (ii) an object file handle containing information regarding a file containing data of a current version of multiple versions of the object; and (iii) a version table file handle containing information regarding a file containing a version table. In this manner, enumeration of objects associated with a given chapter may be performed more efficiently and prior versions of objects may be maintained separately within the version table without causing disproportionate growth of object records and without increasing the search depth with objects that are not referenced by the search at issue.

Object versioning support for a file system

Systems, methods, and data structures for providing a file system with object versioning support are provided. A system, method, and machine-readable storage medium for maintaining an object storage system data are provided. In some embodiments, an object manager may receive a request to perform an operation on an object. The object storage system includes a first database of a first type and a second database of a second type. The object manager may identify a first record stored in the first database. The first record includes a name marker indicating a range of object names covered by the second database and includes a file handle referencing the second database. The range of object names includes the object name. Additionally, the object manager may identify a second record stored in the second database. The second record includes the object name and includes a file handle referencing the object. The object manager may perform the operation on the object in accordance with the request.

A method of interconnecting a new node into a cluster of other nodes. The new node broadcasts a configuration (DP) packet describing itself to the other nodes of the cluster. The other nodes then respond by setting up communications information enabling the new node to directly communicate with a monitor process in the responding nodes and sending that information (DI packet) to the new node. The new node then sets up information enabling the responding nodes to communicate with a monitor process on the new node and sends that information (DC packet) to the responding nodes. The responding nodes then acknowledge the information (DA packet) and the new node is then interconnected with the responding nodes. The DP and DI packets are sent via a permissive interrupt mechanism, received by each processor unit making up a node and forwarded to the monitor process of the node.
