A method of controlling steering of a marine vessel includes receiving a steering input from an operator-controlled steering input device, determining a desired turn rate for the marine vessel and a desired roll angle for the marine vessel based on the steering input, and controlling a steering angle of at least one trimmable propulsion device based on the desired turn rate and controlling a trim deployment of a pair of trim tabs and/or the trimmable propulsion device based on the desired roll angle so as to steer the marine vessel according to the steering input.

Marine steering system and method

A steering system on a marine vessel includes at least one outboard drive configured to propel the marine vessel, a steering actuator configured to rotate the at least one outboard drive, at least one trim device coupled to the marine vessel and movable with respect to a hull of the marine vessel to adjust a running angle thereof, and at least one trim actuator. A control system configured to determine a desired roll angle and at least one of a desired turn rate and desired turn angle for the marine vessel based on a steering instruction and control the steering actuator to rotate the at least one outboard drive based on the desired turn rate and/or the desired turn angle and control the at least one trim actuator to move the at least one trim device based on the desired roll angle to effectuate the steering instruction.

A steering system on a marine vessel includes at least one propulsion device, a steering actuator that rotates the propulsion device to effectuate steering, at least one trim device moveable to adjust a running angle of the vessel, and a trim actuator configured to move the trim device so as to adjust the running angle. The system further includes a control system configured to determine a desired roll angle and at least one of a desired turn rate and a desired turn angle for the marine vessel based on a steering instructions. The control system then controls the steering actuator to the rotate the at least one propulsion device based on the desired turn rate and/or the desired turn angle, and to control the trim actuator to move the at least one trim device based on the desired roll angle so as to effectuate the steering instruction.

An equipment monitoring system preferably includes an electronic control device, a controller area network bus wiring harness (CAN BUS) and a plurality of sensors. The electronic control device preferably includes a software program for receiving input from the plurality of sensors. The CAN BUS wiring harness provides an interface between the electronic control device and the plurality of sensors. The plurality of sensors include at least one oil temperature sensor, at least one fluid pressure sensor, at least one vibration sensor, at least one speed sensor, a moisture sensor vacuum sensor and an exhaust air temperature sensor. The software program monitors the plurality of sensors. If the operating limit of one of the plurality of sensors is exceeded, the electronic control device sets off some type of alarm. The electronic control device preferably wirelessly transmits the data received from the sensor to a remote device.

Equipment monitoring system

Control systems and methods are for a marine engine emitting exhaust gas. A sensor senses a characteristic of the exhaust gas. An electrical heater heats the sensor. A control circuit monitors current drawn by the heater. The control circuit controls an operational characteristic of the engine based upon the characteristic of the exhaust gas and modifies its control of the operational characteristic of the engine when the current drawn by the heater changes by a predetermined amount.

Control systems and methods for marine engines emitting exhaust gas

A cooling fluid pump is for a cooling a marine engine. The cooling fluid pump comprises a pump chamber that contains an impeller. An upstream inlet passage supplies cooling fluid to the pump chamber. A downstream outlet passage discharges cooling fluid from the pump chamber. An impeller shaft rotates the impeller, causing flow of cooling fluid through the pump chamber from the inlet passage to the outlet passage. A drain passage connects the pump chamber to the inlet passage such that at least when the impeller is not rotating, the drain passage drains cooling fluid that settles by gravity in the pump chamber back to the inlet passage.

Cooling fluid pump for cooling a marine engine

A hull of a boat, which is particularly intended for use with a jet pump propulsion system, is provided with two channels formed in the port and starboard surfaces of the hull and displaced from a keel line. Each channel comprises a forward edge that intersects the hull at an angle to define a continuous surface with a portion of the hull that is immediately forward of the channel. The channel intersects the transom of the boat at a rearward edge. Each channel has a pair of sidewalls which are contiguous with their associated generally planar surface of the channel. The sidewalls are generally parallel to a central vertical plane which extends from a bow of the boat to a transom of the boat and in which the keel line is disposed. Each pair of sidewalls are generally parallel to each other.
