Disclosed are methods useful in applications relating to blast furnace processes. The methods of the present invention provide enhanced deposition inhibition of particulate matter in top-pressure recovery turbines. The methods of the present invention comprise adding nitrogen-containing compounds to a top-pressure recovery turbine, inhibiting deposition of solids formed from blast furnace gas on top-pressure recovery turbine components.

Methods for recovering energy and water from at least one energy-rich process water stream are provided. Use of control matrix for boiler control

Described and claimed is a method of controlling a boiler in which control is based on information from a control Matrix applicable to the specific parameters of the boiler. The control matrices include (a) Polymer Based All-in-One Product; (b) Residual Phosphate Polymer Product with Scavenger and Condensate Corrosion Inhibitor Fed Separately; (c) pH/Phosphate Product with Polymer, Scavenger, and Condensate Corrosion Inhibitor Fed Separately; (d) All-Polymer Product with Separate Scavenger and Condensate Corrosion Inhibitor Fed Separately; and (e) pH/Phosphate Polymer Product with Scavenger and Condensate Corrosion Inhibitor Fed Separately.

A method of determining the dosage of dust control agents applied to coal is disclosed. The method comprises the steps of: (1) treating the coal, with a small amount of a dust control agent containing a compatible fluorescent dye; (2) extracting the treated coal with a polar solvent for the freeze-release agent and determining the fluorescence of such extract; (3) extracting a similar treated coal sample to which a known amount of the dust control agent has been further added and determining the fluorescence of this extract; (4) setting up a proportionality between the fluorescence values of extracts (2) and (3) with the corresponding dosages of dust control agents and solving for the unknown dosage originally applied to the coal.

Leakage of water from a boiler water system wherein steam is generated in a boiler from feedwater fed to the boiler, and the concentration of impurities in the boiler water within the boiler is reduced by withdrawing fractions thereof as blowdown while admitting additional feedwater as boiler-water makeup, is determined. The boiler has a concentration cycle value, the concentration cycle value being the average value of the concentration of an inert component in the blowdown at steady state (C.sub.F) divided by the concentration of the inert component in the feedwater (C.sub.I). The concentration of the inert component in the boiler at steady state varies from a high concentration C.sub.H, having a value that is higher than C.sub.F, to a low concentration C.sub.L, having a value between the (C.sub.I) and the (C.sub.F), within a time period. Boiler system leak detection

A method for determining the presence of ferrous ion in boiler waters is described. The method can be used to directly measure the rate of corrosion occurring in boiler waters, and can measure the corrosion rates in the presence of boiler water treatment chemicals. The method uses a complex formed between only ferrous ion and a chemical 3-(2-pyridyl)-5,6-diphenyl-1,2,4-triazine-p,p'-disulfonic acid monohydrate reagent.

On-line iron (II) concentration monitoring to continuously determine

Concentration cycles, percent life holding time for a component in the boiler and continuous treatment concentrations are monitored or determined in a boiler system by adding to the feedwater an inert tracer in a predetermined concentration C.sub.I, which reaches a final concentration C.sub.F at steady state in the boiler and which exhibits a blowdown concentration C.sub.t at different points in time. The component is an inert tracer having no significant carryover in the steam, nor significant degradation during boiler cycles. The tracer is monitored by continuously converting a characteristic of its concentration to an analog which may be recorded as a function of time.
