The present invention provides compounds that have antimalarial activity. More in particular, the present invention provides novel compounds that are analogues of pantothenamides. The pantothenamide analogues of this invention have particularly low ICvalues against the asexual blood stages and gametocytes of malaria parasites. Furthermore, the pantothenamide analogues of this invention are characterized by low hepatic metabolism. Therefore, pantothenamide analogues of the invention are particularly suitable for use in therapeutic and/or prophylactic treatment of protozoan infections in a human or animal subject in need thereof. The invention further provides pharmaceutical formulations comprising the pantothenamide analogues as well as the therapeutic and/or prophylactic uses of the pantothenamide analogues and pharmaceutical formulations comprising them.

Pantothenamide analogues

The present invention provides an 8-oxoadenine compound having immunomodulating activities such as an interferon inducing activity and useful as an antiviral agent and antiallergic agent, which is represented by the following formula (1): [wherein the ring A represents a 6-10 membered aromatic carbocyclic ring and the like, R represents a halogen atom, an alkyl group and the like, n represents an integer of 0-2, Zrepresents alkylene, Xrepresents oxygen atom, sulfur atom, SO, NR, CO, CONR, NRCO and the like, Y, Yand Yrepresent independently a single bond or an alkylene group, Xrepresents oxygen atom, sulfur atom, NR(Ris hydrogen atom or an alkyl group) or a single bond, Rrepresents a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl group, Rrepresents hydrogen atom, hydroxy group, an alkoxy group, an alkoxycarbonyl group or a haloalkyl group]or its pharmaceutically acceptable salt.
