In a general aspect, a method can include navigating, by a browser of a client system, to an online service and detecting, by the browser, access to the online service. The method can further include determining, by a login module of the browser, an association between the online service and a user-application account included in the browser, the association being included in a list of trusted services included in the login module. The method can also include providing, by the browser to the online service, a username and password for authentication by the online service and receiving, by the browser from the online service, an authenticated credential corresponding with the username and password. Responsive to receiving the authenticated credential, the method can still further include logging into the user-application account, by the login module, using the authenticated credential.

Pass through service login to application login

Pass through service login for an application can include receiving, within a client system, a credential from a Web-based service responsive to a successful authentication of a user of the client system to the Web-based service. The user can be logged into the application executing within the client system using the credential.

Embodiments of invention relate to automatically updating browser extensions. In an embodiment, a method for updating browser extensions is provided. In the method, an input to execute a browser extension installed in a local browser extension database is received. In response to receipt of the input, a remote server is automatically communicated with to determine whether a portion of the browser extension should be updated. An updated portion of the browser extension is received if the browser extension should be updated. Finally, the updated portion of the browser extension is installed in the local browser extension database.

Automatically updating browser extensions, and applications thereof

In a distributed or multi-user system, it is possible for a user to try to access a media file that is not optimal for the user's purposes. In other words, the best quality version of some source material might not be the most optimal version for all users. For example, some users might use less network bandwidth if they used lower resolution video data. User context information is used to limit which versions of a source may be provided to a user that requests the source. The system interprets the user context information to provide the best quality version of the source for the user's purposes. Example user context information may include a specified working resolution and/or a specified target resolution for the user. The context information may be specified for the user or may be specified for a group of users, location of the user or other characteristic related to the user, from which the user in turn inherits the context information. User context information may include an identifier of an application being used by an individual. The user context information also may indicate whether the user may receive media files with data at resolutions higher than or lower than the specified resolutions.

Using user context information to select media files for a user in a distributed multi-user digital media system

A scalable infrastructure indexes and tracks media data and metadata in a distributed, multi-user system. An indexer is associated with particular storage locations, such as a disk, or a directory on a disk, to maintain an index of media files or metadata stored in those storage locations. The indexer monitors activity on any storage location with which it is associated. Any additions, deletions or modifications to files in that storage location cause the indexer to update its index. This index then can be accessed by any of a number of applications in the same manner as conventional indexes. There may be different indexers for different storage locations. Separate indexers may be provided for media files and compositions that use those media files.

Indexing media files in a distributed, multi-user system for managing and editing digital media

A media management system communicates to a user the availability of media data at different qualities (such as compression quality or resolution), or from different channels, that originated from one or more sources. Given a selection of media objects, whether a set of media files, a sequence of clips or other collection of objects, the corresponding sources are identified. Media objects originating from or related to each of these sources are identified. A display is generated indicating, for each channel from the source, at each quality of data originating from that source, the media objects related to the source. Each media data file originating from that source is represented according to its channel and quality, as a time span corresponding to the time span of the source from which the data originated. Logged, but not captured, media data, and other media objects, also may be represented in the display. As a result, such a graphical interface may provides a two dimensional representation of either media data of various qualities in context of the sources from which they originated, or media objects in the context of the sources to which they are related, or both.
