A variable force rate vacuum booster including a reaction disk having an input surface and an output surface, the reaction disk being formed from a deformable material, an input rod position relative to the reaction disk to apply an input force to the input surface of the reaction disk, an output rod having a reaction surface generally engaged with the output surface of the reaction disk, the output rod defining a bore therein, and a plunger positioned in the bore and biased out of the bore by a biasing force, the plunger being adapted to resist deformation of the reaction disk into the bore until the input force reaches a threshold value.

Variable force rate vacuum booster

A brake booster apparatus having a housing with oppositely disposed first and second walls. A first connector is disposed in the first wall and a second connector is disposed in the second wall. An elongate hollow member is deformationally engaged to each of the first and second connectors. The various embodiments of the invention include embodiments wherein the hollow member is deformed to engage the hollow member and connectors and embodiments wherein the first and second connectors are deformed to engage the hollow member and connectors. The deformational engagement mechanically attaches and sealingly engages the hollow member with each of the first and second connectors. The hollow member defines a passage through the apparatus from the first wall to the second wall of the housing. A method of manufacturing a brake booster is also disclosed.

A tandem vacuum booster includes a rear housing mounted to the vehicle, and a front housing mounted to the rear housing to define an interior chamber. A divider, disposed between the housings, partitions the interior chamber into primary and secondary chambers. A primary diaphragm, disposed between the rear housing and the divider, partitions the primary chamber into a primary high pressure chamber and a vacuum chamber. A secondary diaphragm, disposed between the divider and the front housing, partitions the secondary chamber into a secondary high pressure chamber and a vacuum chamber. A tie rod extends between the housings and through the chambers. A sleeve is disposed about the tie rod and extends between the high pressure chambers and is spaced from the tie rod. This sleeve defines a passage between the tie rod and itself such that air can be transferred between the high pressure chambers.

A power booster comprises a housing, a tube, and a seal. The housing includes a front housing section, a rear housing section, and a divider. The tube is mechanically fastened proximate the rear housing section and generally stationary relative to the rear housing section, with the seal between the divider and the tube.
