A computer-implemented method of improving a patello-femoral response is described. A computing system characterizes an anterior geometry of a patella and determines a position of a posterior apex of the patella in relation to one or more features of the anterior geometry of the patella. The computing system further receives location information related to the patella as a knee joint is moved through a range of motion. The computing system provides one or more recommendations to improve a patello-femoral response.

Patella tracking method and system

Methods and systems of augmenting an implant intraoperatively and preparing a cone for revision surgical procedure are disclosed. A system includes a cutting device, a tracking and navigation system and a cutting system in operable communication with the cutting device and the tracking and navigation system. The cutting device includes a communication system, a cutting element, and a plurality of optical trackers. The tracking and navigation system is configured to detect a location of optical trackers. The control system is configured to cause the tracking and navigation system to detect the location of the cutting device, determine a revised shape for an implant cavity, cause the cutting device to cut the implant cavity to the revised shape, select a shape for a cone to be placed in the revised implant cavity, and machine the cone to the selected shape.

Medical devices, such as orthopedic medical implants, and corresponding methods of applying a porous coating to the medical device are disclosed. In some embodiments, a medical device may include a plurality of texture features extending from a base surface, and a porous coating applied into and atop of the plurality of texture features and the base surface. Fiducial markers can be affixed to the body or components of the trial guide to allow a surgical system to map the trial guide onto a reference frame for the surgery, such as the femur reference frame, thereby allowing the surgical system to update the surgical plan and assist the surgeon in implementing the plan for a revision the arthroplasty.

Medical devices, such as implants, and corresponding methods of manufacturing using an additive manufacturing technique, wherein the finished medical devices include a build plate retained therein, are disclosed. In some embodiments, the medical device includes a build plate having a plurality of peaks and a plurality of indentations, the plurality of peaks and the plurality of indentations together defining a surface roughness of an exterior surface of the build plate. The medical device may further include a first layer formed atop the exterior surface of the build plate, the first layer comprising a plurality of powder structures disposed over the plurality of peaks and the plurality of indentations. In some embodiments, an average peak distance between adjacent peaks of the plurality of peaks is less than an average width dimension of at least a portion of the plurality of powder structures.

Medical devices and methods for forming medical devices containing a build plate

Methods and systems for identifying and determining the size and orientation of a reamed portion of a patient's bone are disclosed. A tracking array and/or point probe may be inserted into an adapter device. The adapter device comprising a plurality of openings, having various connection means therein, such that when the tracking array is inserted into the adapter, a secure and robust connection is created. A reamer, stem, or similar tool may then be inserted into the opposing side of the adapter, during which, a secure and robust connection is created between the adapter and the tool. Thus, through the use of Computer Assisted Surgery Systems, a more accurate representation of the patient's anatomy can be obtained.

There are provided herein methods and products resulting therefrom. The methods include attaching a pre-fabricated porous ingrowth structure to a substrate by applying heat, or creating and bonding an in-situ-formed porous ingrowth structure from beads on a substrate by applying heat. In some embodiments, an oxidized metal surface of the substrate is diffusion hardened during the heating process. In some embodiments, a vacuum is applied during the heating process. In some embodiments, pressure is applied during the heating process. Also provided herein are assemblies for compressing the pre-fabricated porous ingrowth structure or the beads onto the substrate during the heating process.

Methods and apparatuses for attachment of porous coatings to implants and products thereof

Disclosed herein is a patella clamp configured to grip a patient's patella. The patella clamp includes a clamping assembly, a ratchet arm assembly, and a handle assembly. The clamping assembly includes first and second patella grip portions mounted in opposing relationship. In use, actuation of the handle assembly moves the second patella grip portion towards the first patella grip portion to clamp the patient's patella. The handle assembly is configured to be moveably adjustable (e.g., rotatable) relative to the clamping assembly. For example, each of the first and second patella grip portions are coupled to mating features mounted on the ratchet arm assembly. Decoupling of the mating features allows the first and second patella grip portions to rotate about the longitudinal axis of the ratchet arm assembly. Thus arranged, the patella clamp is configured to enable the surgeon to reposition the handle assembly to provide increased visibility, etc.

In addition, an instrument may be made to match a perimeter shape of a Patient Specific Knee Implant with features for locating holes in a distal femur such that posts or lugs in a femoral implant locate the femoral implant centered medial-laterally within an acceptable degree of precision to prevent overhang of either the side of the femoral implant over the perimeter of the distal femur bone resections. Further, a two-dimensional outline representation may be segmented into segments that correspond to resection cuts used in fitting an implant on a portion of a bone and operations related to implant matching may be performed based on the segments.

For example, the system includes a surgical navigation system () including a position tracking system () configured to track one or more tracker arrays, and a device () for mounting a tracker array () onto a patient during the surgical procedure. The device includes an intramedullary (IM) canal component () configured to be inserted into an IM canal () within a bone (). The device further includes a tracker pin () configured to penetrate at least a portion of the bone and engage an inserted end () of the IM canal component, and a tracker array () affixed to the tracker pin. The IM canal component is configured to engage the IM canal of the bone to stabilize the tracker array during the surgical procedure.
