The inventive waffle iron has two baking sub-assemblies pivotable with respect to each other from an open position and a closed proximate position in which they define a baking chamber. At any position of the baking sub-assemblies between the closed proximate position and the closed offset position thereof, wherein they are offset from each other by a product expansion, a peripheral element of a baking sub-assembly slides along a corresponding peripheral element of the other baking sub-assembly in such a way that the variable volume baking chamber is formed.

The cooking appliance includes a cooking plate (1) which is removable and provided with openings (2), heating elements (3) mounted beneath the plate (1) and a container (7) for collecting the fats from cooking. The lower face of the cooking plate (1) includes housings (9) of 'U'-shaped cross section above the heating elements (3), the openings (2) not emerging into the housings (9). These housings (9) rest at their lower part on a metal wall (10) separate from the housings (9) and are adjacent to the edges of the cooking plate (1).

For the purpose of effecting the thermal control of a heating apparatus the temperature is allowed to rise to a value lower than a predetermined maximum temperature (TM), whereupon, after stopping the heating, the temperature is allowed to rise through thermal inertia until the aforesaid maximum temperature (TM) is substantially reached, the difference (E) between said maximum temperature and the temperature (TC) at which heating is stopped being determined in dependence on the profile of the temperature rise curve during the heating period. Utilization in particular in cooking utensils.

Method and apparatus for the thermal control of a heating device

The device for generating steam within a cooking oven includes a heating element (1) and a water reservoir (2). The heating element is placed above the water (3) contained in the reservoir (11). Two sheet-metal members (4, 5) located in closely spaced relation so as to define a capillary space are placed in contact with the heating element (1) and immersed in the water (3) of the reservoir, one of the sheet-metal members being provided with at least one opening (7) placed in proximity to the heating element (1).
