An alignment fixture includes a rotor fixture, a stator fixture and a sensor system which measures a rotational displacement therebetween. The fixture precisely measures rotation of a generator stator assembly away from a NULL position referenced by a unique reference spline on the rotor shaft. By providing an adjustable location of the stator assembly within the housing, the magnetic axes within each generator shall be aligned to a predetermined and controlled tolerance between the generator interface mounting pin and the reference spline on the rotor shaft. Once magnetically aligned, each generator is essentially a line replaceable unit which may be readily mounted to any input of a multi-generator gearbox assembly with the assurance that the magnetic alignment will be within a predetermined tolerance.

Fixture for aligning motor assembly

A multi-pole generator rotor and a method of making the same are disclosed. A multi-pole generator rotor includes a rotor body having a central portion with a generally cylindrical outer surface. The outer surface includes three pairs of diametrically opposed slots extending along a length of the central portion, with each of the slots being sized to receive therein a plurality of wires. Each of the slots further includes a pair of opposed retaining flanges. A plurality of retaining members are sized for insertion into a corresponding one of the slots. Each retaining member engages a pair of the retaining flanges from its corresponding slot. The retaining members thereby retaining the wires disposed in each slot against radially outward displacement. A method of forming a multi-pole generator rotor includes the steps of providing the above rotor body, winding first, second and third wire coils by repeatedly winding a wire through a first, second, and third set of opposing slot pairs, and inserting a retaining member longitudinally into each of the slots.

Multi-pole generator rotor and method of making the same

Axial compactness is achieved in a generator set including an internal combustion (10) having a main shaft (16) journalled for rotation about an axis (56) and having an end (18, 54) with a flywheel (20) mounted on the end. A first rotatable magnet assembly (21) having axially facing poles is disposed on the flywheel (20) and a stator (24, 72) including generator windings (102, 104) is provided adjacent the magnets (21). A second rotatable magnet assembly (21, 22) is opposite the first magnet assembly (21) and adjacent the stator (24, 72) and has axially facing poles directed toward the poles on the first magnetic assembly (21) and is coupled to the first magnetic assembly for rotation therewith.

Axially compact generator set and refrigeration system employing the same

Lack of axial compactness in a dynamoelectric machine is avoided in an axial gap dynamoelectric machine including a disc (62, 66) rotatable about an axis (56) and adapted to be coupled to a shaft (54). At least two equally angularly spaced magnets (74, 76, 78, 80, 84, 86) are mounted on the disc (62, 66) and have their poles (N,S) facing in axial directions. A stator (72) is axially spaced but in close adjacency to the magnets (74, 76, 78, 80, 84, 86) and includes at least two equally angularly spaced groups of windings (92, 94, 96, 98). Each of the winding groups (92, 94, 96, 98) includes first and second winding loops (102, 104) with one of the loops (104) being wholly within the other of the loops (102) and in a common plane therewith.

Axial gap dynamoelectric machine

A quasi regulated electric generator, comprising a stator having teeth on an inner periphery defining slots therebetween, stator windings disposed in the slots forming output phases, a rotor rotatably mounted within the stator, the rotor having permanent magnets mounted thereon forming rotor poles which induce a voltage in the stator windings when the rotor is driven by an external prime mover, and a series saturation circuit coupled to an external source of dc current for saturating the stator, decreasing the induced voltage thereby. Magnetic slot closers are placed in the slots in which are disposed the series saturation circuit to aid tooth saturation.

Quasi regulated permanent magnet generator

A rotor assembly including first and second generally discoidal endshafts disposed at opposite ends of the rotor assembly, an electromagnetic core and winding assembly secured between the endshafts, and a generally annular sleeve member shrunk-fit onto the end shafts in a position surrounding the electromagnetic core and winding assembly. The torque is transmitted through the sleeve member between the endshafts during operation of the dynamoelectric device in which the rotor is employed. A method of assembling the rotor is also disclosed in which the electromagnetic core and winding assembly is bolted between the endshafts. The sleeve member is heated to a temperature between 900.degree. and 1,000.degree. F., the sleeve member is brought into a position over the endshafts, and subsequently allow to cool to ambient temperature to shrink into locking engagement with the endshafts.

Rotor containment assembly for dynamoelectric machines

A temperature compensated shaft bearing support assembly in a magnesium alloy housing wall includes a liner made of a material which has a coefficient of thermal expansion between the coefficients of thermal expansion for the magnesium alloy and for the steel bearing. A support spigot has two hubs, one for supporting the shaft bearing and the other for supporting the liner that in turn is supported by the housing wall.

Bearing assembly with thermal compensation

To replace a diode assembly in a brushless dynamo electric machine without removal of the rotor or separation of the housing along a split line, a sealed cap is located at a position near the end of the hollow rotor. The parts for maintaining the diode housing in operation position can all be slidably removed for permitting each removal and replacement of the diode housing.
