Hockey helmet

A helmet designed for use in winter sports, particularly the sport of snowboarding, having a flexible ear protection member including a hearing enhancement feature disposed therein is disclosed. The hearing enhancement feature may preferably be formed as an aperture disposed through at least a portion of the ear protection member, and preferably includes a deflection element to deflect objects away from the aperture, thereby preventing objects from passing through the aperture and penetrating the ear protection member in order to protect portions of the user's ear underlying the aperture from injury. The ear protection member may be configured as a ear flap including an abrasion-resistant outer layer to provide protection against branches and the like. In one embodiment, the ear flap may be formed as part of a comfort ring supported by the helmet. The helmet may also include a puncture resistant outer shell, an abrasion resistant inner liner and climate control features, such as vents, to regulate the temperature and air flow within the helmet.

A lacelock for a lacrosse stick head generally comprising a mechanical device affixed to a lacrosse head frame which interacts with one or more of the thongs and/or netting materials of the lacrosse head to securely hold the thongs or netting materials at a desired tension and to enable a person to readily release and adjust the tension of the thongs and/or netting materials as desired and relock into place.

A helmet including a strap securing device having a gripping section and/or a clip for engaging and holding a strap, for example a goggle strap, in place over the surface of the helmet is disclosed. The gripping section and clip may be utilized individually, or in combination, to engage and hold the strap. The gripping section preferably includes an outer surface which engages and secures the strap in place when utilized alone. The outer surface may be a textured surface and may include a plurality of raised nodules to enhance gripping. When utilized in combination with a clip, the strap may be sandwiched between the gripping section and the clip. The clip may, alternatively, be utilized alone to hold the strap in place. When utilized alone, the clip may be removably attached to the helmet to secure the strap between the clip and the outer shell of the helmet. Additionally, the clip may include a textured inner surface to enhance gripping, or may alternately include a textured outer surface for securing the strap over the outer surface of the clip when the clip is in a closed position.

A women's lacrosse stick head generally comprising a frame and netting wherein the frame comprises a throat portion, sidewalls diverging from the throat portion, and a lip portion joining the sidewalls distal from the throat portion, wherein the sidewalls have a bottom edge provided with a plurality of concavities and apices, including a notchback area proximate to the throat portion to create a pocket, yet enabling a lacrosse ball to clear the top edge of the sidewalls.

A helmet including a selected combination or all of an outer shell, a liner and a comfort ring, the helmet being designed for use in winter sports and including climate control features to regulate the temperature, air flow and moisture within the helmet is disclosed. The helmet may include front and rear adjustable vents for selective circulation of air through the helmet to vary the temperature inside the helmet for comfort, as desired, by the user. The helmet may additionally include a comfort ring for providing abrasion resistance over exposed areas of the user, for example the ears. The comfort ring may additionally, actively contribute to controlling the interior climate of the helmet by aiding in removing and preventing moisture from contacting the skin of the user.

A plug-in fuse device can be handled without special tools and permits convenient replacement of a burnt-out fuse element. The device has a rigid housing with a pair of plug portions. Each plug portion is shaped to plug into a socket and carries a fuse assembly which includes a pair of terminals for engagement with socket elements, a fuse element between the terminals, and a pair of conductive contacts. The terminals extend from one end surface of the plug portion, and the contacts are located at an axially opposite end surface. The plug portions are connected at their contact-bearing surfaces, and the terminals of one plug portion extend in one axial direction and the terminals of the other plug portion, in the opposite axial direction. The plug portions are also offset to different sides of the general plane of the housing. Thus, when either plug portion is plugged into the socket, its contact-bearing surface is available for continuity testing. The device can be removed from the socket by gripping the plug portion currently external to the socket.

A shoulder pad/chest protector combination is provided for use in lacrosse or other sports in which the individual's arm is raised above shoulder level. The shoulder pad is pivoted to the chest protector by a lacing arrangement and is adjustable down the length of the arm by adjustment of the pivot point on the chest protector, with the shoulder pad being made to pivot with the arm by strapping the distal end of the pad to the arm. In one embodiment, the pivotal motion is provided by virtue of the twisting of the laces between the chest protector portion and the overlying shoulder pad. In another embodiment the shoulder pad includes a cuff for securing the distal end thereof to the arm of the individual. In one embodiment, lateral adjustment of the pivot point is made possible by providing laterally running lacing apertures at the top of the chest protector over the shoulder, with the lace passing through two apertures in the chest protector and four apertures in the shoulder pad. In one embodiment, the tension on the strands is adjustable by clamping the free ends of the lace. In a further embodiment, the shoulder pad chest protector combination is back closing, in which the back of the chest protector is laced together. This permits the front portion of the chest protector to be provided with a sternum pad to prevent injury. Additionally, mesh and perforated foam is provided for increased ventilation; and in a further embodiment, a neck roll may be added for comfort and protection.

A hockey goalie protective headgear comprised of a helmet member for protecting a wearer's head. A plastic frame member having a forehead section, opposed side sections and a lower chin band section is also provided. A face opening is defined between the sections. A face guard is secured in the face opening. A pivoting throat guard is formed as a solid molded piece, and is secured to the opposed side sections by pivot connectors and is pivotal from the lower chin band section of the frame.

Protective headgear and detachable face protector

A protective sports headgear comprised of a helmet member shaped to protect the top, rear, front and sides of a wearer's head. The helmet member has a rigid outer shell with an inner protective lining of shock absorbing material. A sizing harness is secured to the helmet and disposed inwardly thereof. The harness has a height adjusting band and a horizontal contour adjusting band. Adjustable sizing members are secured to the helmet and the adjusting bands to fit the bands on the head of a wearer to thereby space the head from the protective lining in at least some inner areas of the helmet member. The helmet is secured to the wearer's head by conventional retention members.

A strap and buckle assembly wherein a plurality of ratchet teeth are formed on the strap and the buckle has a ratchet type of catch for releasably retaining the strap. The housing of the buckle has a slipway which receives the strap. A catch lever is pivotally mounted on the housing for movement between a locking position and a release position. The catch lever having first and second portions of its length extending from opposite sides of its pivotal axis. A shoulder is formed on the first portion of the catch lever and is arranged to be oppositely disposed with respect to the locking faces of the ratchet teeth when the catch lever is in the locking position. Resiliently deformable catch biasing arms are formed integrally with and extending from the second portion of the catch lever into contact with the housing. The arms normally urging the catch lever toward the locking position and are deformable in response to movement of the catch lever toward the release position to an extend sufficient to withdraw said shoulder from engagement with said locking faces of the ratchet teeth.
