A method is disclosed to operate and control a balance which has a control unit that is operable to execute an operating- and/or applications program and is equipped for this task with a processor and a memory unit. The balance also has at least one entry device to give command signals to the control unit. The control unit uses the command signals given by the entry device to control one of at least two function modules that are assigned to the entry device by the control unit dependent on the operating status of the operating and/or applications program. The entry device can therefore control a plurality of function modules, hardware and/or software modules, e.g., for the opening and closing of the doors of the weighing compartment, the zeroing of the balance, the setting of tare, or the printing of the measurement results. The assignment of the function modules to the entry device is signaled to the user by an indicating device. The user is further given a confirming signal by a feedback device after the entry device has been actuated. The entry device, the indicating device, and the confirming feedback device can be arranged separate from the balance in the housing of a freely movable input unit.

A draft protection device for a balance, which encloses a weighing compartment surrounding a weighing pan, has at least one opening that can be closed by a window. The at least one window has at least two slidable window sections which partially overlap each other in any of their positions. According to the invention, a drive mechanism is provided for the opening and closing of the window, which drive mechanism couples the window sections to each other in such a way that all of the window sections move simultaneously and at different speeds during the opening and closing, wherein a fixed ratio between the respective speeds of the window sections can be predetermined by design.

A balance () has a draft protection device () that encloses a weighing compartment surrounding the weighing pan (). A rear wall () delimiting the weighing compartment on one side is made of a material () that diffuses the transmitted ambient light. The translucent, light-diffusing material () is in particular a frosted glass.

The method and the device serve to monitor the alignment of a measuring instrument, specifically a balance. To perform this function, the monitoring device is equipped with an inclination sensor based on the principle of a spirit level, with a container filled with a fluid in which a bubble is formed. According to the invention, the position of the bubble is measured optically by means of a radiating element that is arranged on one side of the bubble and serves to emit a radiation, and a sensor element that is arranged on the opposite side of the bubble and serves to receive the radiation. The radiating element, preferably a light-emitting diode, and the sensor element, preferably a photodiode, together define the sensor axis (sx) on which the bubble is centered as long as the sensor axis runs parallel to the axis of the gravity force. Furthermore, the sensor element is flanked by at least two reference elements that are likewise receiving the radiation. The reference elements serve to test whether the intensity of the radiation is within a permissible range. A function test is performed automatically inside the monitoring device in order to verify that the monitoring device is functioning correctly.

A scale () having a scale housing () serving to house the weighing mechanism and the weighing electronics, which stands on a support base on at least three support points ('), is designed to be connectable to and disconnectable from a display and operating unit (). A connection element () is provided to produce a mechanical coupling between the scale () and the display and operating unit (), which can be attached to the bottom side of the scale housing () and is designed to be supported on at least two support points () of the scale () and can be engaged in a self-locating way in a third point on the bottom side of the scale housing ().

A balance () with a housing () containing the weighing mechanism and associated electronic components has at least three positioning feet (') to stand on a supporting surface (), at least two of the positioning feet () being height-adjustable for setting the balance () into a level position. In addition, the balance () has at least one stabilizer foot () which can be locked and unlocked, so that for adjusting the level position of the balance, the stabilizer foot is released and thereby enabled to stay in contact with the supporting surface (), and after the level adjustment of the balance has been completed, the stabilizer foot is locked in place to secure the stability of the balance () in its set position.

Precision balance

A device for monitoring an operating condition is incorporated in a balance with a weighing cell, an electronic weighing circuit arrangement (), an output unit (), and at least one electronic inclination sensor (). The circuit arrangement () includes a signal-processing device (), a memory device () as well as a time clock (). Based on a sensor signal received from the electronic inclination sensor (), the signal-processing device () determines a quantity that is indicative of the operating condition of the balance. The signal-processing device () also determines the current time and assigns a time value to the quantity that represents the operating condition. The resultant vector-like sets of time and operating condition data are transmitted to and stored in the memory device (), so that the data are at all times available for transmission to an output unit ().

A draft protection device () has a wind-blocking body () that consists of at least two panel elements (A,B,C;A,B) and partially encloses the weighing compartment of a balance () in which a weighing pan () is arranged. The wind-blocking body () can be selectively positioned by hand in at least two different orientations. In each of the different orientations at least one opening is available for access to the weighing compartment. The wind-blocking body () can be positioned by the user in such a way that the openings resulting from the differently oriented positions allow access to the weighing compartment from different directions.

A draft shield for a balance that has a balance housing has a rear wall and a front wall panel arranged in a fixed position to the rear wall, at least two side wall panels and a top cover. The rear wall and the front wall panel are connected to a base. The base has a locking device and the balance housing has a complementary locking element. The locking device and the locking element cooperate with one another to releasably attach the draft shield to the balance housing, wherein the locking device and the locking element are configured to release the draft shield without moving the draft shield.

A balance has a balance housing ( ), an operator console ( ), and a pivot arrangement ( ) between the balance housing and the operator console. The pivot arrangement works as a hinge, so that the operator console can be tilted about a transverse horizontal axis (A) that runs parallel to the balance housing. From a normal working position, i.e., projecting forward from the balance housing, the operator console can be folded upward into a rest position. The pivot arrangement has a certain amount of loose play in at least one radial direction. The operator console has a tilt-adjustable part ( ) and a tilt-angle adjusting device ( ) with a secondary transverse tilt axis (B) located in an anterior portion of the operator console. A locking device ( ) serves to secure the tilt-adjustable part in one of at least two selectable tilt-angle positions.

A dryer mounted in a housing with a balance for determining the moisture content of material to be weighed which is in a dish placed in the balance and is subjected to a heat source. The dish is placed in a dish support device which can be placed in and removed from the dryer together with the dish. The dish can be inserted into the dish support device and removed from the dish support device manually and from the side. An upwardly bent inner edge of a support ring prevents impurities resting on the support ring from unintentionally dropping into the dish.
