An infusion pump including an interface unit for receiving first data for a first infusion regimen for a medication, the first regimen including a first unit of measure in which the first regimen is executed and after receipt of the first data, second data for a second infusion regimen for the medication, the second regimen including a second unit of measure in which the second regimen is executed. The pump also includes a processor for comparing the first and second units of measure. In one embodiment, the pump includes a graphical user interface, and the processor identifies a difference between the first and second units of measure; generates, using the processor, a warning message; and displays the message on the graphical user interface. In another embodiment, the processor holds in abeyance initiation of the second infusion regimen in response to identifying the difference between the units of measure.

Infusion pump and method to prevent titration errors in infusion therapies

A method of operating an infusion pump includes transmitting light through or around a drop of fluid suspended from an end of a drip tube for the infusion pump, the end of the drip tube located in a drip chamber for the infusion pump, wherein the drip tube is configured for connection to a source of the fluid; receiving, using an optical system for the pump, light transmitted through or around the drop; transmitting, to a specially programmed microprocessor and using the optical system, data regarding the received light; and, using the microprocessor to calculate a volume of the drop using the data.

Infusion system using optical imager for controlling flow and method thereof

An infusion pump is provided, including a specially programmed microprocessor, a flow sensor for measuring flow from a source of fluid through an output tubing, a pumping section including a plurality of fingers in operational relationship to the output tubing, an outlet valve associated with the output tubing, and a first actuator configured for sequentially displacing the plurality of fingers to displace fluid through the output tubing. An inlet valve is disposed between the pumping section and the source of fluid; and a second actuator is also included. For detection, by the flow sensor, of flow above a predetermined level, the microprocessor is configured for one of: closing the outlet valve independently of the inlet valve using the first actuator; and closing the inlet valve independently of the outlet valve using the second actuator.

Infusion pump with independently controllable valves and low power operation and methods thereof

An infusion pump, including: a specially programmed microprocessor; a drip chamber for connection to a source of fluid and to an output tubing; a pumping section including a plurality of fingers and a first actuator, controllable using the microprocessor, for sequentially displacing the plurality of finger to compress a first portion of the output tubing to displace fluid from the drip chamber through the output tubing; an inlet valve disposed between the drip chamber and the pumping section and arranged to compress the output tubing to restrict or block flow through the output tubing; and a second actuator, controllable using the microprocessor, for opening or closing the inlet valve independent of the displacement of the plurality of fingers; or for operating the inlet valve to control a rate of flow of fluid from the drip chamber to the portion of the output tubing.

An infusion pump, including: a microprocessor; a drip chamber; a drip tube with an end in the drip chamber; and an illumination system: with a light source for transmitting light through the drip chamber to a drop of fluid suspended from the drip tube; and for controlling illumination properties of the light transmitted to the drop. The pump includes an optical system for: receiving light transmitted through the drop; and transmitting, to the microprocessor, data regarding the received light. The microprocessor: generates, using the data, an image of the drop; locates, using the image, an outer edge of the drop to define a boundary of the drop; integrates an area enclosed by the boundary; and calculates a volume of revolution for the drop with respect to an axis for the drop that intersects the end of the drip tube, assuming symmetry of the drop with respect to the axis.

A system for managing an infusion therapy, including: a server in communication with a central server; and an infusion pump in wireless communication with the server and for: uploading respective label data from respective labels for at least one medication, the respective label data including respective label pump programming data for infusion of the at least one medication by the pump; wirelessly transmitting the uploaded label data to the server; and wirelessly transmitting pump data identifying the pump to the server. The server is for transmitting the pump data and the respective label data to the server; and receiving, from the central server and in response to receipt of the pump data and the respective label data by the central server, second pump programming data regarding a second medication. The server is for comparing the first pump programming data with the second pump programming data.

System and method for managing infusion therapies

An apparatus for pumping fluid through tubing comprising a stop platen is disclosed. The stop platen is operatively arranged to depress a wall of the tubing along a section of a longitudinal axis of the tubing. The stop platen is narrower than the tubing along a transverse axis of the tubing. The invention further comprises a cabinet containing the stop platen, a door rotatably fixed to the cabinet, and locking means for preventing rotation of the door. The locking means are operatively arranged to be unlocked by a tubing occluder.

Energy-saving, anti-free flow portable pump for use with standard PVC IV tubing

A holder for an IV tube roller clamp is removably secured in the housing of an electronic infusion device, and has in opposite ends thereof a pair of photo-electric devices, one of which detects when the roller of the clamp is in its tube opening position, and the other detects when the roller is in tube closing position. A lever is pivotal on the housing between a closed position in which it operatively connects the IV tube to a pump unit in the housing, and an open position in which it permits removal of the IV tube from the unit. The spring-loaded armature of a solenoid prevents the lever from being opened until the solenoid coil is energized, and the photo-electric devices prevent the solenoid coil from being energized until the roller is in its tube closing position. When closed, the lever overlies part of the tube channel in which the IV tube is seated and also shifts a pressure plate in the pump unit to a position in which a lip thereon overlies another portion of said channel.
