The present invention resides in the surprising properties found to characterize the thermoplastic molding composition which comprise a polydiorganosiloxane block copolycarbonate and an additive amount of a partially fluorinated polyolefin. The composition of the invention has a surprisingly improved flame retardance and a high impact strength.

Flame retardant polycarbonate blends

The impact strength of a thermoplastic molding composition containing aromatic polycarbonate resin and a copolymer is improved upon the incorporation therewith of a particular silicone rubber powder. The silicone rubber powder, added at a level of about 3 to 25 percent, contains a mixture of (a) a polydiorganosiloxane and (b) finely divided silica filler.

Impact modified thermoplastic molding composition

The invention relates to thermoplastic molding compositions comprising a polycarbonate resin which is rendered resistant to gamma radiation induced yellowing. It was surprisingly found that the incorporation in the resin of an effective amount of benzylic alcohol or its derivatized versions renders the composition resistant to yellowing. The composition of the invention is suitable for the preparation of molded articles having improved resistance to yellowing and to the formation of haze induced upon exposure to gamma radiation.

Gamma radiation resistant polycarbonate composition

A Chemical Blowing Agent (CBA) concentrate was developed comprising a modifying agent and a chemical blowing agent. The CBA is characterized in that its decomposition products contain a primary amine. The modifying agent is a blend of a maleic anhydride copolymer and a butadiene based rubber. It was surprisingly found that resin degradation which often accompanies foam moldings using a CBA of the present type and is expressed in terms of a reduction in the molecular weight of the resin, is much reduced upon the incorporation of the modifying agent and chemical blowing agent of the invention. The concentrate may optionally further comprise a polymeric resin component.

Foamable molding compositions

The present invention is directed to flame retardant, pigmented polycarbonate molding compositions which properties include both good flame resistance properties and virtual freedom from streaking. The compositions are particularly suitable for use in molding machines using hot runner tools. The composition of the invention comprise a thermoplastic aromatic polycarbonate resin, a flame retarding agent, pigments, polytetrafluoroethylene--ASTM Type 3--and an amount of finely divided hydrophobic silicon dioxide sufficient for providing streaking-free molded articles.

Pigmented, flame resistant polycarbonate compositions

The present invention relates to an improvement in preparing foamed thermoplastic articles. It was found that a chemical blowing agent concentrate which contains a blowing agent which produces primary amines upon decomposition and additionally contains an anhydride compound which contains at least one cyclic anhydride in its structure, offers surprising advantages over the prior art process in terms of improved impact strength and process flexibility.

Process for foaming thermoplastic

Foamable, thermoplastic molding composition exhibiting an improved level of impact resistance is provided. The composition, which is suitable for the preparation of expanded molded parts, comprise a thermoplastic resin, preferably at least one selected from a group consisting of polycarbonate, polyalkylene terephthalate, aromatic polyester and polyester carbonate, a nucleating agent, a chemical blowing agent and an anhydride. It was unexpectedly found that the composition is suitable for the molding of articles having an improved level of impact resistance.

The present invention is directed to a thermoplastic molding composition comprising a polycarbonate resin and a pigmenting amount of black iron oxide. The invention is predicated on the surprising findings that this composition yields stable, streaking-free molded articles. A preferred embodiment of the invention comprises a flame retarding agent and iron oxide based pigment selected from the group consisting of black iron oxide and red iron oxide, said flame retarding agent comprising polytetrafluoroethylene; the composition is characterized in that it is streaking-free and in that its flammability rating is at least 5V-1/8' in accordance with UL-94.

Iron oxide pigmented, polycarbonate compositions

A copolycarbonate molding composition comprising the reaction product of an aromatic diphenol, a bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)biphenyl disulfone and a carbonate source is characterized by its high glass transition temperature. A blend thereof containing an organic acid salt is characterized by its improved flame retardance.
