A system includes an engine cover covering a side-facing rotorcraft engine and having an opening and an ice protection member mounted on the engine cover between the opening and the engine, an area of the ice protection member smaller than an area of the opening. The ice protection member is configured to partially cover the opening to prevent ice having a particular size from entering into the engine and to allow air flow downstream into the engine.

Passive internal ice protection systems for engine inlets

There is provided an ice protection system for a rotary aircraft, including a rotor blade susceptible to an ice buildup having an inboard portion and an outboard portion, the length of the inboard portion and the length of the outboard portion define a total length of the rotor blade; a first deicing system coupled to the inboard portion of the rotor blade, the first deicing system including a plurality of spanwise zones; and a second deicing system coupled to the outboard portion of the rotor blade, the second deicing system including a plurality of chordwise zones. In one aspect, there is provided a deicing system for a rotary aircraft. In another aspect, there is a method to de-ice a rotor blade of an aircraft.

Rotary aircraft ice protection system

An electrical generator assembly including a central rotatable shaft () having a winding assembly () mounted thereto for rotation therewith, a rotatable permanent magnet assembly () surrounding the winding assembly () adjacent thereto and in use cooperating therewith to induce a current in the winding assembly (), and a drive system () drivingly interconnecting the central shaft () and the permanent magnet assembly (), the drive system () defining a relative rotational speed between the permanent magnet assembly () and the winding assembly () which is greater than an absolute rotational speed of the winding assembly (). Electrical generator for rotating structure

An aircraft includes a heat absorbent material carried by an airfoil susceptible to ice buildup and a transmitter spaced apart from the heat absorbent material. A method includes the process of transmitting the heat energy from the transmitter to the heat absorbent material that in turn warms the airfoil to break apart ice buildup.

Rotor blade de-icing system

The present application relates to a regenerative or hybrid drive system for an aircraft. The drive system includes the use of a power augmentation device to selectively engage the drive system of an aircraft to store power. The power in the power augmentation device being configured to release a power burst to systems within the aircraft to perform critical flight maneuvers.
