Methods are provided for qualifying jet fuel fractions that are derived at least in part from pre-refined crude oil sources. The methods allow for determination of the stability of a jet fuel product over time by using an accelerated aging test. The methods are beneficial for verifying the stability of a jet fuel fraction that includes a portion derived from a pre-refined crude oil.

Characterization of pre-refined crude distillate fractions

Methods are provided for characterizing the stability of a distillate fraction using a quartz crystal microbalance apparatus, such as a distillate fraction derived at least in part from a pre-refined crude oil. A sample can be aged for an aging period in a quartz crystal microbalance apparatus, and a frequency value for the sample in the quartz crystal microbalance apparatus can be determined before and after the aging period to determine a frequency difference. This frequency difference can be correlated directly with the ability of a jet fuel fraction to satisfy a stability test standard, such as a jet fuel breakpoint stability. The methods can also include using a temperature profile during characterization that can reduce or minimize operator error during the characterization.

Aviation gasolines having an enhanced peak indicated mean effective pressure are provided by admixing with a leaded base aviation gasoline an aromatic amine of the formula NH&#x2014;Ar&#x2014;(R)wherein Ris selected from C-Calkyl, halogen, and mixtures thereof provided that when Ris alkyl it occupies the meta- or para-positions on the aromatic ring, Ar is a phenyl aromatic group and n is an integer from 0 to 3 to provide an aviation gasoline having a peak indicated mean effective pressure as determined by ASTM D-909 of greater than about 200 psi.

The present invention relates to an unleaded aminated aviation gasoline of high motor octane number (MON) and low toluene insoluble deposit formation containing an additive for controlling said deposits selected from the group consisting of high molecular weight hydrocarbyl amines, high molecular weight hydrocarbyl succinimide, high molecular weight hydrocarbyl substituted Mannish bases, and mixtures thereof, and optional carrier oil(s), to an additive concentrate for controlling toluene insoluble deposits, and to a method for producing the additive concentrate.

Unleaded aviation gasoline

Melt stable polymeric resins are provided by process which comprises heating a first particulate resin selected from the group consisting of poly(arylene sulfide ketone) and poly(arylene sulfide diketone), while in the presence of a gaseous oxidizing atmosphere, to a temperature at least about 150.degree. C. (302.degree. F.) but below the melting point of the first particulate resins, for time sufficient to produce a second particulate resin. The thermal stability of the second particulate resin is superior to that of its respective first particulate resin is superior to that of its respective first particulate resin. Moreover, the molecular weight of the second particulate resin is greater than that of its respective first particulate resin.

Melt stabilization of poly arylene sulfide ketone

A process for the catalytic self-condensation of halothiophenol to form a poly(arylene sulfide) is disclosed. The reaction mixture includes an alcohol solvent, the halothiophenol, an alkaline reagent and a catalyst comprising a Group VIII metal. The polymerization process can be carried out at pressures as low as 1 atmosphere and temperatures of 200.degree. C. or less.

Catalytic preparation of poly(arylene sulfide) from halothiophenol

A process to form a fiber-reinforced composite having a continuous thermoplastic matrix of poly(arylene sulfide ketone) resins is provided. The composite is useful to form shaped articles with high temperature resistance. The composite can be prepared by consolidating under heating a multi-layer stack of resin sheets and fiber reinforcement sheets. The poly(arylene sulfide ketone) resins can be melt-stabilized through treatment with a water-soluble salt of an alkaline earth metal. The composite has excellent thermal properties such as heat distortion temperature.
