Catheters having a pre-shaped tip configuration are disclosed. A catheter in accordance with an illustrative embodiment of the present invention can include an elongated tubular shaft equipped with a distal tip section having a pre-shaped tip configuration that can be used to facilitate tracking of the device through particular locations of the vasculature. The catheter may include a number of features that transition the stiffness and flexibility characteristics of the device and provide a means to radiographically visualize the catheter within the body.

A medical device shaft for connection with a handle and for insertion within a body includes an elongated, deflectable shaft having a proximal shaft portion, an intermediate shaft portion, and a distal shaft portion. The elongated, deflectable shaft includes a transition in stiffness from the proximal shaft portion to the distal shaft portion. In a preferred implementation, the shaft includes a plurality of slits that extend perpendicular to a longitudinal axis of the shaft. Varying at least one of the number of slits, the location of slits, the frequency of slits, the orientation of the slits, the size of the slits, and the depth of the slits varies the transition of stiffness.

Torqueable and deflectable medical device shaft

A device for removing blood clots and methods of making and using the same. The clot pulling device may include a shaft and one or more strut members that each may include a loop region. The proximal ends of the strut members may be attached to the shaft and the distal ends of the strut members may be coupled to the shaft.

Clot removal device

Devices for loading a collapsible implant onto a delivery catheter. In one aspect, a loading device comprises an outer tubular structure and an inner tubular structure. The outer tubular structure comprises a narrowing passage configured to receive a catheter at one end and a collapsible implant at another end. The inner tubular structure is configured to move slidably and co-axially within the outer tubular structure. The inner tubular structure comprises a carrier pin configured to move within the narrowing passage as the inner tubular structure slides into the outer tubular structure. The sliding of the inner tubular structure into the outer tubular structure causes an implant mounted on the carrier pin to collapse as the implant moves through the narrowing passage and into the distal end of a catheter. In an optional aspect, the outer tubular structure further comprises a grasper to stabilize the catheter for receipt of the collapsible implant, and the internal diameter of the inner tubular structure varies to cause the grasper to first contract and stabilize the catheter, and then expand and release the catheter, as the grasper moves into the inner tubular structure.

Loading device for a pulmonary implant

Medical devices and methods of treatment using medical devices, and more particularly, methods of treating a treatment site in a blood vessel and devices or apparatuses for use therewith. In some embodiments, a method and apparatus for treating a treatment site in a blood vessel using fluid movement or agitation adjacent the treatment site is disclosed. In some embodiments, an apparatus is provided including one or more deployable structures adapted to create fluid movement within the vessel. The apparatus is inserted into the vessel, and the deployable structure is positioned adjacent the treatment site. The deployable structure is used to create fluid movement adjacent to the treatment site. In some embodiments, a treatment material, such as a medicine or drug, is introduced into the vessel proximate the treatment site, and the deployable structure is used to create fluid movement or agitation adjacent the treatment site to create a better interface between the treatment site and the medicine, or to move the medicine into the treatment site. In some embodiments, the fluid movement created by the deployable member aids in removal of tissue or other material from the treatment site.

Apparatus and method for treating intravascular disease

Compositions comprising devices for retrieving objects from a subject, for example the subject's vasculature, are described. In particular, devices including a catheter shaft having a lumen through which a core wire extends are provided. Proximal and distal junction members are disposed around the core wire and at least one junction member is permanently and slidably attached to the core wire. In addition, the device includes a retrieval element as well as a stop element that is attached to the core wire distal to the catheter shaft. Also described are methods of making and using these devices.

Medical retrieval device

This invention is a surgical device. It is a composite guidewire for use in a catheter and is used for accessing a targeted site in a lumen system of a patient's body. The composite guidewire assembly is especially useful for accessing peripheral or soft tissue targets. The invention includes multi-section guidewire assemblies having (at least) super-elastic distal portions and super-elastic braided reinforcements along the mid or distal sections. A variation of the inventive guidewire includes the coating of the wire with a tie layer and then with a one or more lubricious polymers to enhance its suitability for use within catheters and with the interior of vascular lumen.

Composite endovascular guidewire

This is an assembly for controllably delivering vaso-occlusive devices to a selected site within the vasculature or other lumen of the human body by the use of a catheter. In particular, the device includes a holding member which is at least generally tubular and has an opening through the tubular wall. The vaso-occlusive device to be delivered has on one end a mating member which may be at least partially pressed into the opening in the wall of the holding member. The mating member attached to the vaso-occlusive member is held in the opening with an interference wire. The interference wire is axially movable within the holding member and has a diameter sufficient to hold the mating member within the wall opening. Upon proximal movement of the interference wire, the mating member becomes free to leave the holding member. The interference wire may be tapered or not. The vaso-occlusive member may be a helically wound coil or a braid or other appropriate form.

This invention is a surgical device. In particular, it is a catheter suitable for treating a tissue target within the body, which target is accessible through the vascular system. Central to the invention is the use of a multi-component distal section having an interior stiffener and an exterior tubing member.
